Displaying episodes in numerical order
« on: March 03, 2016, 10:46:15 am »

I need some help. When in theater view how do I get TV series episodes to appear in numerical order? Nothing I try seems to work. They are always displayed by the alphabetical order of the titles

Thanks

Are the tags correct?

The Name, Episode, Season, and Series fields are correct. Everything shows correctly in standard view.

You can customize views in MC settings for Theater View.

Does this screenshot help? Do you have your view setup something like this?

Thanks for the effort of reproducing your image for me to see.

I have attached an image of my settings for you to examine. I do have episodes sorted by (a-z), but it sorts by the title and not the episode number. It would seem to me I need another option to sort episodes by ascending number. Is there a thread where postings are made of individual layouts and the settings to reproduce them?

Edit: I posted too many images and could not figure out to delete one of them. They are essentially the same

I assumed you were working with "recorded" TV Shows. Is this correct?
But you have Media Type = Television, so that's not going to work for sorting/displaying "TV Shows" (which are Media Sub Type = TV Shows).

I can't tell from your screen shot, are you working in the branch under "Shows" which is under the parent/tree "Video" or are you in the branch "Guide"?

Plus it sorts items from top down, so first it would sort by Genre, then Series, then ..., with Episodes last.

We need more description on what you are wanting to do - then we can help.

You should take out the "Name" entry in the grouping categories. Should just be Series and Season at the end, adding Name or Episode there just causes confusion.

Yes.  Take out Name *and* Episode from the pane where it says "Details".

I agree that Two Wire should remove these. And fix the Media Sub Type filter, unless I misunderstand completely what they're up to, but...

Throwing it out there for people who get how to use the Media Views in MC: I use [Name] sometimes as a Category in my Views, set to Group by 1-3 "digits" so that I get a 0-9, A-B, C-D, etc "layer" in the View.

In this instance, that's not what is going on. Sigh... We really need better Media View documentation. Of course, I don't know how many people would read it, which makes the massive effort to do so feel... Just awesome.

Where did the "Type of Media" come from in his Rules window. I've never seen that selection choice.

Possibly a custom field.

You guys are amazing. I changed the tag and removed the "Name" and "Episode" entries and it works. I've been trying to solve this problem on and off for a couple of years. It was never a pressing issue and I did not push it much. Dropping the  "Name " and "Episode" entries does not seem logical to me, but I will just accept it as fact.

I created this as a custom field

Thanks, so much.
