Cannot get JRemote app to work with QNAP MC
« on: May 09, 2016, 08:46:56 am »

Hi,

I finally got JRiver up and going on my QNAP but when I went to set up the JRemote app I keep getting a timed out error. I entered the correct access key and it first says that it tried one IP address and was timed out and then another and it was timed out. It gives the correct port number but I cannot get it to work. I must not be setting something up incorrectly or missing a box to click.

Are you trying to connect from the LAN?  Or from outside?

It could be a firewall problem.  The wiki has a topic on Network Access.

I am trying to connect wirelessly to my router. I guess that is LAN. When you say outside I'm not sure I understand.

Is the QNAP allowing access?

In MC's settings for Media Network, you can test the access.  Click on the Access Key to get the menu.

MyQNAP I guess is not allowing me access. Is there a setting I am missing?

Can you access the QNAP version of JRiver using JRemote? Open a browser on another computer on the same LAN and try [IP.OF.Q.NAP]:52199.

This will tell you whether you have access to the box.

The changing IP address will be internal (generally 192.x.x.x or 10.x.x.x) and an external one (provided by your ISP). It will try internal first, then external if it can't access internal.
