Recovering FLAC files

Hi

A technical question maybe ...

I have some "one CD" FLAC files that are a CD image but I have misplaced (read lost) the CUE files. Does anybody know a way of recovering this.

I have the art work so I know the track timings and I have tried rewriting the CUE file but its not clear what gaps are present and how long they are so its not quite splitting it properly.

I have tried CueMaster to lookup in the freeDB CUE sheet database but only a few of the CD's are there.

Is it possible to parse the FLAC file and pick up the Gaps and use that to create the CUE sheet.

I have tried Conversion to FLAC but I just get the same file.

I feel a programming project coming on ...

Have you thought about using a program like Audacity to split the tracks?  It would be a manual process but, if you don't have to many albums like that, it would be manageable.

Did you try cuetools maybe they have a bigger database

Yes I am using CUE Tools to split files routinely. Still no Joy

How many of these do you have?  For a small number (less than 20?) re-ripping seems like the best idea to me.  Of course rip to individual tracks this time. Cue files are nothing but trouble.

You could use Audacity to split the file based on silence detection, but this is next to useless for live albums or gapless albums

Cracked it eventually

I looked up the Box Set on the Music Brainz Picard web site from there I could see each disc in the set

Got the FreeDB disc ID for each disc in the set.

Used CueMaster to look up the CUE sheet

CueTools to split to individual tracks

Bit convoluted but worked  ;D
