Up to now, I have only ever used JRiver MC for playing audio files or MKV rips of my own DVD/BD collection (using media files stored on a NAS). I have never previously dabbled in the world of live streaming. However, there is a live streaming of an opera tonight from the Glyndebourne opera house in England, via the website of the Daily Telegraph (a prominent UK newspaper). I would like to watch this on my TV, not my computer screen, and would appreciate some assistance on how to achieve this using MC's Media Server - assuming that this is possible.
So far, my attempts to stream video via DLNA from MC to either my smart Panasonic TV or to my Oppo BDP-105 universal media player have failed. These initial experiments used YouTube videos. I was able to view them in MC on my Windows 7 PC and used the 'Add the link to my library (no download)' option to ensure that each specific video was available via the Media Player library (where they appeared as MP4 files). I had no problem playing such MP4 files from the Video library in MC itself, and I can see these files from both my TV and the Oppo. However, when I tried playing them on either the TV or the Oppo I got the error message "The file format is not supported".
Any guidance would be much appreciated.
David
EDIT: The Oppo player supports playback of MP4 files via DLNA, though the source that provided this information stated that the "DLNA playback also depends on the DLNA server's capability".
