Why does doubleclick on m3u playlist do nothing MC
« on: August 02, 2003, 01:09:08 am »

I would like to start MC (9.0) by doubleclicking on a playlist file which I made in Winamp (m3u). However, when I doubleclick nothing happens at all.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

No problem here dble-click on a playlist just starts it.

Check in Options/General that the Double-Click behaviour is set to an appropriate value that triggers playing and not to "File-Properties".
I always set it to the value "Current Sent to 'Item" but this one's a bit tricky (while powerful). In this particular case dble-click will do whatever action is specified in the Target Bar (just above the media tree). If you set the target to "Play" action it will do want you want.

U see MC9 is highly configurable.
Hope this will help you,

cheers,

Christian

Well the point is that is works with m3u playlists created within MC9 but it doesn't with m3u playlist created in winamp.

The winamp playlists look a bit like this:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:176,Vorzeiten gab es ein Land - Carl Orff - Philharmonia Chorus & Philharmonia Orchestra - Wolfgang Sawallisch
\Wav Music\Der Mond\01 = Vorzeiten gab es ein Land = Carl Orff - Philharmonia Chorus & Philharmonia Orchestra - Wolfgang Sawallisch = Der Mond.ape
#EXTINF:239,Was ist das für ein Licht - Carl Orff - Philharmonia Chorus & Philharmonia Orchestra - Wolfgang Sawallisch
\Wav Music\Der Mond\02 = Was ist das für ein Licht = Carl Orff - Philharmonia Chorus & Philharmonia Orchestra - Wolfgang Sawallisch = Der Mond.ape
#EXTINF:118,Tanz der Bauern in der Schänke - Carl Orff - Philharmonia Chorus & Philharmonia Orchestra - Wolfgang Sawallisch
\Wav Music\Der Mond\03 = Tanz der Bauern in der Schänke = Carl Orff - Philharmonia Chorus & Philharmonia Orchestra - Wolfgang Sawallisch = Der Mond.ape
#EXTINF:89,Und wann ich hamwärts geh - Carl Orff - Philharmonia Chorus & Philharmonia Orchestra - Wolfgang Sawallisch
\Wav Music\Der Mond\04 = Und wann ich hamwärts geh = Carl Orff - Philharmonia Chorus & Philharmonia Orchestra - Wolfgang Sawallisch = Der Mond.ape
#EXTINF:125,Der Mond ist fort - Carl Orff - Philharmonia Chorus & Philharmonia Orchestra - Wolfgang Sawallisch
\Wav Music\Der Mond\05 = Der Mond ist fort = Carl Orff - Philharmonia Chorus & Philharmonia Orchestra - Wolfgang Sawallisch = Der Mond.ape
#EXTINF:80,Wirt, Leute kommen - Carl Orff - Philharmonia Chorus & Philharmonia Orchestra - Wolfgang Sawallisch
\Wav Music\Der Mond\06 = Wirt, Leute kommen = Carl Orff - Philharmonia Chorus & Philharmonia Orchestra - Wolfgang Sawallisch = Der Mond.ape

I have about 800 of them and would hate to redo them in MC. Any idea how I could get them to work?

Thanks!

Allright,

I just tried and you're right. It appears that winamp does not store the drive letter in front of each file in the m3u. Of course when you play such a playlist in MC, it does not know on which drive to look for files.
If you edit one m3u from winamp and add the approriate drive letter in front of each file (e.g. D: ) then MC's happy.

Now this seems strange to me that winamp does not include the drive letter. There might be an option somewhere.

Strangely enough, I tried setting up a playlist in winamp with tracks from three different drives. The result is that winamps does not put the drive letter for tracks in my "local document folder" drive but places drive letters for files on other drives ?

Get a good text editor - editplus is pretty good (www.editplus.com - and has a 30 day trial so should be perfect for this).

Drag and drop every single playlist into it (it'll handle hundreds with no problem.
Press Ctrl+H - (find and replace)
and do this:

Find:   \n\Wav Music\
Replace: \n\C:\Wav Music\

select: All open files

That'll find every line that starts with \wav music\ and will put the C drive before it (presuming your music is on the C drive which by the sounds of the post after it is).

That should fix it for you :)

Well, I have the songs on two disks..

But thanks, I'll probably give that a try. Still much faster then redoing them all! :P

The ones on the second disk should have the drive letters set by the sounds of  Cmagic's post.

That's right Nila.
Only songs on the Home drive - where your default Document folders lies (mine is D: ) - will not have a drive letter prefix in the m3u.
Songs on all other drives (C:,E:, F:... in my case) will be correctly prefixed.

I tried generating m3u with both Winamp 2 & 3 and it's the same with either m3u or pls formats.

have a nice day,
