Play count increments by 3 with DLNA playback
« on: November 21, 2016, 04:26:17 pm »

When playing to a DLNA renderer from MC 22.0.41 the play count goes up by 2 when the track is started, and another 1 when the track completes. The net result is the play count increments by 3 each time you play a track to completion. Perhaps the play count should change only when the track finishes, at least when playing to a DLNA renderer.

I have downloaded AndrewFG's excellent utility and have checked Disable SetNext support, as recommended. It made no difference though, even after restarting MC.

This probably depends on your renderer. I have seen devices that start a download of the start of the track to get the Http headers, then if the headers indicate support for seek, it does a second download at the end of the track to get any Id3v2 metadata, and then finally downloads the track to play the music itself. And MC considers every download as being one "play". I am not sure that MC could have any way of determining the difference between real plays and such other downloads.

Thanks. I'm using a Chromecast Audio. MC should at least know that two consecutive loads from the same device are not two plays. Also, as the behaviour of the device is consistent, there could be an option within MC's "DLNA Servers" definition to control play counting.
