black screen issue on theater view
« on: August 25, 2017, 05:56:48 am »

I have a bug on the theater view of MC21.

- Turn a view mode to theater view with any of 'hardware accelerated graphic' option
- Then, all thumbnails are not shown or broken like 'screenshot1' I attached
- To fix the problem, change the hardware accelerated graphic (custom > No anisotropic filtering; antialiasing and vertical sync don't influence)
- In these settings, however, I always get a black screen when I turn between standard view and theater view a few times, or I move thumbnails even a bit on the theater view and get out to standard view and go back to theater view

I searched topics and some similar issues, finally I couldn't resolve the problem.

My current VGM is Gigabyte Radeon R7 250 (V5.0), I tested many times installing drivers/clean-uninstalling with official tool.
It seems drivers don't influence the issue.
However, the on-board VGM ATi HD4200 on my mobo works perfectly.
It looks like a kind of compatibility issue between VGA and MC.

I found out this issue just right before I upgrage my MC from 21 to 23.
Does the current 23 have no problem with this issue?
If not, I cannot buy an upgrade or any other new version since I have to largely use the theater view with my new devices.

Regards

In MC's options, did you try turning off hardware acceleration?

Yes, I tried it by selecting 'hardware accelerated graphics: custom' (''no fullscreen anti-aiiansing/no anisotropic filtering/do not wait for vertical sync' or 'no fullscreen anti-aiiansing/no anisotropic filtering/wait for vertical sync').
If there is any other way to completely exclude hardware acceleration, please let me know, I'll try more.

MC23 does have an opengl implementation of theatre view so it may well work better for you. I suspect there is no way to know for sure without trying it.

Are those madVR settings?  We don't support madVR changes of any kind.

Don't use Custom.  Try Red October Standard and then Red October HQ.

madVR or Red October is not related in drawing Theater View, only for video playback.

Fortunately, MC23 allowed me to have 30 trial period and tested the advanced option 'use experimental OpenGL theater view'.
Cool! it works well now. :) Thanks mattkhan for the hint.

Is it possible to manually apply OpenGL function to 21?

No. IIRC this was added late in mc22 and is still labelled experimental (though seems mature to me after the most recent updates). Hendrik may be able to comment on what is left to do before it is declared done.
