Local Backdrops for Movies
« on: January 05, 2018, 10:28:57 pm »

I find Theatre View good enough (better than Plex ... not as good as Kodi) ... it is simple and intuitive enough for rest of family to use

Only grudge I have is inability to use local backdrops for movies and TV shows (set online slideshow on ... but untick all online sources ... it works for music but not for movies and TV shows)

Don't give up on that idea.  We should do it.

That should be built on top of the JRiver image features... that would alllow to use backdrops, music and movie art from the MCWS API.

JRiver proposes a image database that should be a good start to provide a way to categorize images for backdrops and other image arts.
Since it's already exposed via MCWS, these images would be available for Theater View but also for other UI via the API.
Now there's some thinking how to organize the information to have it usable.

Do you imagine images being associated with specific movies by using a tag?

Yes, but more generally a tag that references a name!: movie, actor, singer, etc.

It could be a list of values.
But the main issue still is to have a shared repo to build a community stock of image art.

While your on the subject of backdrops it would also be nice to add video backdrops as an option.  I know I brought this up before, and Jim H, you seemed to warm up to the idea of adding trailers to MC.  If you added trailers for local content, maybe you could add an option to play said trailer as a local background until some kind of Movie backdrops database takes off?  If you did this, maybe you could have all of the menus auto-hide while the trailer was playing as well.
