irman plug-in crashes
« on: May 27, 2003, 07:32:31 pm »

I just got the irman device, and I'm following instructions for setting it up. Here is what I've done:

1. Install device
2. Install IrServer (and tested it - works fine with the included windowsmedia player)
3. Installed Girder (3.2) - though when I go to set up the Plugin for IRman, I get the message "Plugin is loaded in memory but hardware initialisation failed". Not sure if this has anything to do with the main issue.
4. Installed the IRman plug-in from Media Center plug-in site, and clicked on "Start".
This is where the problem maily lies. Once I push start, media center hangs (crashes). The only way to recover it is to remove the plug-in from the plug-in directory.

Any ideas on where I'm going wrong here?
Thanks so much in advance!

Though it shouldn't crash or hang, our IRMan plugin is a standalone remote control solution. It does not work in tandem with Girder. When you start up our IRMan plugin it takes over (or tries to) control of the serial IRman device and no other app (such as Girder) can access it. Same with Girder, if it's running and communicating with the IRman, no other app (such as MC) can use the IRMan.
Try shutting down Girder and using the IRMan plugin alone. By the way, this plugin will soon be updated to support a more complete and extensible MC command set.

JohnT, any idea when it will be updated?  I just bought an Ira-2 which, I think, should work with MC's IRMan plugin.  Is there a FAQ or other help file that will give me some guidance on how to set it up with the plugin?

It will be updated this week. For the current implementation, look in MC help under "Remote control/Supported Remote Control Devices/IRMan". The new implementation will be similar, but the training of the remote is done within MC instead of within the plugin.

I am experiencing similiar difficulties with irman and mc9.
I had  already discovered that running irserver or girder caused an error. closing these programs allows you to map remote keys, but it still doesnt control the player.
Is 1.4 the most current irman plugin version?
