It looks like the album art currently there is transparent.

Try setting the album art again.

That could be a video driver problem.

Silly question:  Have you stopped and restarted MC?

I kinda half way remember this being reported by someone else a while back, but I don't remember the cause or solution.  I would close the playing now Tab altogether, stop and start MC, then try again.

Good luck.

Try right-clicking on one of the problem files, then Cover Art > View (first file). Does this also show either no image, a checkered image, or the correct album Cover Art?

If it doesn't show the track's Cover Art correctly, open the Tag Action Windows and look at the [Image] tag. Does this also show either no image, a checkered image, or the correct album Cover Art?

I'm wondering if your Cover Art in a bunch, or all, your files has been replaced by one transparent png image.

I understand that. I asked two specific questions. You showed me an image of Playing Now again.

Please try what I suggested and answer the questions.

thx sorry, here is the answer your question:

"Try right-clicking on one of the problem files, then Cover Art > View (first file)."

yes that works and shows the correct cover art , i checked several images and they all show properly

as soon as i play new files in the now playing view it reverts to the checkered image

any clue how to further debug?

Make a new user account on your Mac to test with.  Something like "zeltest".  Then login as zeltest, install MC24, and see what happens with cover art.  If it works, we know it's a configuration issue with your main user account.  If it does not work, we know it's a system wide issue.

I see the same thing with my Windows version of MC when I have "track info" enabled. MC needs to create a temp folder, where it places a copy of the cover art and some files with the track info. It almost always fails to create the folder for the first track of an album, but works after that. You probably don't have "track info" enabled, so your issue could be different. What happens when you play a full album instead of a mixed playlist?

Your screen shot shows that the first track is playing. If you wait until the second track do you eventually get the cover art?

What happens if you set the image again in Media Center?

It just looks like what you would get if you had a transparent image as the cover art.

Thanks.

thx again unfortunately no, it stays like that for every track, even if i add single tracks albums etc (see another screenshot)

Matt: this happens to EVERY single track and every album i ever try and play. each of them has a valid album art (see tagging window screenshot)
What do you mean by set the image in MC? I tried the get cover art from the net and also rebuild cover art database with no solution.

I appreciate both of your help. This issue has been annoying me for the past 2 months..I upgraded to MC25 and still no solution and cant get the nice Lyric view...any ideas on how to debug this would be really great

Any clues in the log file? When I see the checkered space MC definitely reports that it is failing to create the temp folder. It doesn't say why, mind you.

On a Windows PC I would suggest deleting the Thumbnails database and rebuilding Thumbnails in MC. But I don't know where the Thumbnails database is on a Mac, so you are on your own if you want to try that.

Because this works under a "guest" user account, it implies that MC's configuration or support folders or database, or something is corrupted in some way.

I would suggest the following.  Note that what I'm going to suggest is destructive and you might lose your library settings and metadata if something goes wrong.  Please understand the procedure and proceed at your own risk.  Though it's really not too risky as long as you pay attention.

1.  Make a backup of your library:  File > Library > backup library   Make a note of exactly where you put this backup!  You are going to need it.
2.  Shut down MC.  Make double sure that  MC is dead and there are no dock icons of MC that have a dot under them.
3.  Remove MC's entire "support folder" which includes the library (database) files that it uses for your main library.  To do this, go to Finder and navigate to your Library folder.  Press <command><shift>g and in the box that comes up type
Code: [Select]
~/Library .  Now you will see many folders.  You are looking for Application Support.  Once you double click on that, find the "JRiver" folder.  Remove that folder entirely by dragging it to the Trash, or some menu or right click action that moves it into the Trash.
4.  Fire up MC again.  It should bounce on the dock for a little bit, as it is recreating this directory structure and some other stuff.  It's possible your copy of MC will be unlicensed at this point.  You should be prepared to re-license it.  This is very easy, I'm just preparing you for this step if necessary.
5.  Once MC is up and you can use it, restore your original library:  File > Library > Restore library  You will need to tell MC which backup file to use, which you noted in step #1 above.  Make sure the  "Library" and "Settings" check boxes are checked so that it restores everything.
6.  You should probably restart MC at this point to make sure everything sticks.

There's some possibility that you will have to redefine your audio devices as well.  If so, that shouldn't be very hard.  Again, just be prepared for it just in case.

I am hopeful that this "nuke and pave" approach will solve your long standing problem.

Good luck!

Brian.

Oh I forgot to add:

CAUTION:  This procedure will "reset" ALL versions of MC that you have installed:  24, 25, etc.  If you are using (or counting on) any older versions, make sure to back up their libraries first and be prepared to do everything I outlined to restore each version.

thx blgentry!

so i followed all your steps and here is what i report

i followed till step 5 and launched a simple file and played it and it worked well
then i proceeded to step 5 and imported library. Restarted MC and the same problem comes back!!!
i really dont want to loose al my settings, perhaps some of the devs can weigh in on this? this has been going on for a few weeks now...

I don't think it's the image itself but try this:
Right-Click on an track
Do Cover Art->View (First File)
if that looks ok do:
Right-Click on a track
Do Cover Art->Save Cover Art To External Location Specified in Options
Then look in
~/Application Support/J River/Media Center 2x/Covert Art
for the file and attach it to a message here.

I think it's really more likely that something you've customized in the settings is doing this. I noticed you customized the toolbar. Any other things you can think of?

thx Bob

ok so Cover Art->Save Cover Art To External Location does nothing , that is there is no file saved in the specified location in options (/Users/zeltak/Library/Application Support/J River/Media Center 25/Cover Art)

the only thing there currently is a series and season folder.

anything else to try?

Check to see if the save location option has changed:

Can you email your User Settings.ini file in ~/Library/Application Support/J River/Media Center 24/Settings to
bob (at) jriver (dot) com
and I'll see if I can find something weird in it.
Thanks.
