« on: June 06, 2003, 03:24:26 pm »

i have been trying to get media server to work here on our home network and everytime MC goes to find the other libraries it comes up with an error and must shut down.  it says unable to get file 192.168.1.101.get library.  any ideas?  i have the latest version of MC on both computers on the network and get errors on both when i try to access the each other's library

thanks, king sparta.  are they working on this?  i would love to be able to stream libraries here in the house but most importantly from work in the future.  is there anything that can be done to aid the finding of libraries when MC is searching?

>> are they working on this?
they work on alot of things, but this as far as i know has not been adressed.

But i also have not tested it to see if it still crashes.

well a crash here normaly is due to MC can't find the server. so you may have some setup problems.

create a new Library and place your info in the fields and if that does not work post it to the forum.

if you need help putting info into the fields let me know i will tell you what to put in there.

I Just Started My Media Server

At The Top mine Tells Me 192.168.1.102:81

I go into MC9 and go to Library manager, click on add Library

Name: My Server
Location: 192.168.1.102:81
Click "Ok"

Or click on Load

this should work now.

mucho thanks, king sparta.  i got it to work and was able to stream.  so to clarify for myself and others, you have to create a clone of the normal library you want to share with the name and address of the computer.
name: lionel's server
address: 192.168.1.102:80 for example.

then go to the other computer and search for media servers, right?

Could someone please explain to me why I would want to use media server?    I have MC9 running on 2 computers.   All of my MP3 files are on one of the 2 computers....so the computer that does not have the mp3 files just reads the mp3's off of the other computer through a shared folder over my network.

Everything seems to work fine.   I know there must be a benefit to using music server rather than just sharing my music mp3 folder over a network, but I can't seem to figure out what it is.  Thanks!

ok, lets say your two computers are at home, and when you go to work or another town due to your job or vacation you want to play your music. with media server you can do this.

you can play music on your TV thru a networked Tivo
