Netflix in MC24
« on: April 21, 2018, 12:52:30 am »

Hi
Has anyone got Netflix streaming within MC24?

I recently upgraded to MC24/Win 10 and get a black screen when streaming Netflix.

I understand IE is the default browser for MC and I did get Netflix in the past via MC23/Win7/IE (i'm pretty sure).

I tried changing the browser to Chromium but get the dreaded error message re can't find the WideVineCDM component, which it turns out is a Chrome (not Chromium) component. It says to update it via components chrome but not sure how?

Thanks in Advance
David

Well, yes, but not possible through MC directly. Run video in a separate browser, set default audio device to JRiver WDM, then you will route audio through JRiver audio engine (note that there will be some a/v sync issues). ASAIK, there's no way to route Netflix video through JRiver.

Okay, many thanks for your answer. Hopefully this can be addressed as part of MC24 future plans. It was great to see "Streaming" as a new heading in MC24 as opposed to fragmented "Connected Media". It would also be great to be able to have this functioning for things like netflix.
Thanks again

Seemingly there are no plans for that.

If you want 5.1 sound you'll need to use the Windows 10 application from the Microsoft store.
Netflix through the web browser supports only 2.0 sound.
Routing sound through the WDM driver to JRiver works OK.

It appears to be a 'netflix' thing, not interfacing well with third party software. I confess however that I don't understand.

Im having a different problem. I have windows 10 and was streaming netflix without problem. I did have a problem with "Theater View" and received a prompt telling me I needed opengl 2.2 After updating windows and installing opengl 2.2, the theater view works, but Im getting the black screen without images, but with sound.

Where is the incompatibility coming from? the latest windows 10 update or the opengl 2.2?

It's likely your hardware. Are you running Intel integrated graphics, e.g. HD 2000, HD 3000, HD 4000? If so, Intel doesn't provide support or drivers for OpenGL 2.2 and newer on Windows 10 for those older iGPUs built into Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge, etc. CPUs.

The only 'workarounds' are to add a dedicated GPU (which is what I'd recommend doing if possible), downgrading to Windows 8.1 where there is Intel support/drivers (which is a total PITA, IMO), etc.

Since you can now see Netlifx 4k thanks to the new AMD drivers https://www.trustedreviews.com/news/netflix-4-streaming-amd-gpu-drivers-download-3466303 I also thought to subscribe to the subscription just possible, but I would like to be able to use Netflix using MC24 with madvr etc. and not simply by opening the app from MC24: is it possible?

I hope I explained myself.

Unfortunately, thats not possible. The best you can do is open the app and use the WDM driver to route audio through MC.
