The reason i bought JRiver is because after updating the 1809 feature update my windows media player went haywire. I have used WMP for years with no problems i know it's not the best but it is supplied with the Windows OS .

I tried reinstalling Windows 10 and still the same problems with WMP my problem was if i moved the cursor from one thumbnail to another all the thumbnails in the displayed library went haywire changing and showing false artists and false covers.

Downloaded a trial version of JRiver and it worked perfect so i bought the JRiver player.

What is happening to windows ? as when i looked online other people were having problems after this update although they seem to be different problems to mine

Just thought i would post this for any person looking for a different player and experiencing similar issues.

Update 10/10/18 - Very pleased with JRiver player my mp3 music sounds so much better and Flac files sound amazing compared to Windows WMP so for me the failure by Microsoft has turned out to be a blessing

I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't yet depreciated Windows Media Player like they did with Windows Media Center. It'll happen eventually, same with Internet Explorer, as neither gets any feature updates anymore and Microsoft is focused on their UWP counterparts (Edge and Movies & TV/Groove Music).

Silver lining @rowan60 - you now have a proper media center. I had a play with WMP and must admit that 1809 has pretty much splatted it - although it is amusing to see a dainty violinist suddenly turn into a heavily tattooed rock star. The sound quality was pretty rubbish.

I believe the iTunes installation requires some media player prerequisites — which is just weird. I uninstalled all windows media player features and can’t update my iTunes anymore.

iTunes installation requires Windows Media Pack.
You have to download it or you have to go:
    1 Control panel
    2  Program and features
3 Turn Windows features on or off

     Select media feature

Note that certain features of Media Center also require the Windows Media features to be enabled. Entirely disabling them is not recommended.

The latest cumulative update for windows 1809 has fixed the problems with media player, but shell integration of jriver is preventing contextual menus from being displayed.

This confounds me as I only have windows dvd maker checked. JRiver MC works fine on W7, tho I don't use JRiver for movies I do have plenty of videos and all is working fine for me.....
