No sound on TV recording
« on: May 26, 2003, 05:58:42 pm »

I am recording video on the composite video input on my tv tuner card (hauppage wintv pci) and the audio from my sound card (audigy gamer) line-in input.  I can hear the sound fine when I watch the input through the TV in Media Center, but when I record it no sound is captured.  Could this be a problem, or do I have something set incorrectly?

Thanks

I am not sure. Try the following:

1. Make sure you have selected the right audio channel on Audio page of TV configuration.

2. TV configuration, Advanced Properties. Double click "Video Crossbar..." (try "Second Crossbar..." if it exists). There, in the output drop-down list, select "Audio Decoder Out", and check the value in the Input drop-down list. You should find "Audio Line In" and "Audio Tuner In". Try selecting one or the other.

3. When you record, check your audio mixer control and make sure Line-In recording channel is selected for recording.

4. Check your Audgy settings.  I remember you or someone else had problem with Audgy while doing time-shifting.

Do you have the same problem if you connect your tuner's audio out to Line-in of your sound card and record from a TV channel?

I just tried it on my computer, it works fine.

I have WinTV PCI card, SiS 7012 sound card (actually it is integrated on mother board). I connect the output from my camcorder to WinTV composite in. The sound can be connected in two ways: either directly to Line-In of sound card, or to Line-In of WinTV card and connecting WinTV Line-out to sound card Line-in. In either way the sound can be heard during viewing as well as in recorded files.

I'm not currently at my computer to test this out, but I think it might have to do with the crossbar setting.  Does this need to be changed if recording from the Video Composite input?  I believe it defaults to record from the Video Tuner.

The crossbar setting should be automatically set to correct one. In my case, if I select a tuner channel to view/record, the Audio Decoder out is routed to Audio Tuner In, but if I select Composite or SVideo, or AUX, it is routed to Audio Line In.
