Newbie: Multiple instances of song in playlist?
« on: May 26, 2003, 08:28:05 am »

After searching and browsing the forums for a while, I decided I could not find a solution to this:

Am I completely mistaken, or is it so that there cannot be more than one instance of the same song in a playlist? I need to insert a short clip every now and then, and just cannot figure out how to do it in a playlist. Adding several instances to "Playing now" works well, but not to a playlist?

Any suggestions/comments?

No, you're not completely mistaken. The only way to do this is to have multiple copies of the file on your hardrive.

Hello folks,

In fact there is a first quick workaround that only works in the "playing now" playlist:
If you simply use the RMC/Add to playing now command, you can add multiple instances of the same song in the 'playing now' playlist. Later you can just drag'n drop those instances inside the "playing now" to set the playing sequence you like.

Another 'more persistant' workaround :
1 - Create a new playlist with the tunes you want with only one instances of each.
2 - Export that playlist with File/Export Playlist...
(choose the m3u format as it is simpler for this task)
3 - Edit your m3u playlist with notepad editor and copy/paste the lines you want multiple times so as to create a new playlist with muliple occurences of the same songs.
4 - Save the edited playlist under a new name
5 - Now back to MC : DO NOT IMPORT THE PLAYLIST with the import tools as this will remove duplicates. Instead play you edited playlist by simply using "File/Open Media File..."
That should do the trick .

Have fun !

Hmmm...

In comment to Cmagic's "workaround": It's then even easier to make a new "send to" that sends a filename to a WinAmp (adds it to its playlist), then add all the songs I need to add with the new Send to and then save the playlist from WinAmp.  Nooo...

I actually did just this the first time I could not get around this feature...  :P

During an evening of playing music (tango music) I need to add a 30s clip every four songs or so, and if I only work interactively, the Playing now list works just fine, but sometimes I'd like to prepare some before and it is annoying not to be able to.

Is there anyone out there who can explain this behaviour to me? Of peripheral interest or just something to I need to add to my wish list? MC would then be complete for all my needs...  :)
