Audio Starts Before Video is Seen
« on: January 31, 2019, 11:41:34 am »

It is very common on my MP4 files in particular that when I "play" or "play now" a file, the audio starts very quickly but the video does not show up on the screen for another 2 seconds or so.  I suspect that there is a setting that I can change to solve this problem.

This is usually caused by the screen being slow to update. You can configure a startup delay in Options -> Audio -> Play Silence at Startup for Hardware synchronization

I'm sorry but that change did not improve the situation at all.  What I need to happen is that when I play an MP4 video file the audio and video streams start simultaneously.  Currently the sound starts about a second before the video is visible.  If I track backwards to the beginning of the track then I can get them to start together, but that procedure is cumbersome and I end up hearing the first couple of seconds twice.

Do you use Display Mode changing, in Settings -> Video -> Display Settings?
If so, there is also an option to delay the start after a change, which might help.
