Media Center 24 stops responding
« on: February 20, 2019, 06:46:32 pm »

I have Windows 10 updated regularly with intel i3 and nvidia GTX 1060 running a HTPC with JRiver 24 latest update. I have A Synology NAS with all my music files and the network is hard wired with cat7 cable and a single gigabit switch. There are no tv tuners.
I use the WDM driver to play all audio through JRiver to a usb audio interface.

I switch between music files, Netflix and directv streaming tv service.
Every 10 to 15 minutes I need to end river with task manager and restart jriver in order to simply change volume because it stops responding.

I have tried many of the suggestions on other threads (making sure no old file references, turned off auto import etc).  This has not helped.

Are there any more suggestions?

Thanks,
Doug

Hmm, that's odd. What would I do? (in no particular order)

I'd keep an eye on task manager in case it shows something running away with CPU or memory.
I'd reinstall MC (take a backup first) and configure it as simply as possible and start form there.
I'd start to simplify the PC by removing apps/drivers to see if they have an effect.
I'd use (borrow?) another PC to test a different OS install.
I'd exclude MC and the media files from the the current AV
I'd tame defender (see the posting on this)
Try a different USB port for the DAC
Try without the DAC

Not a pretty list, not quick, but what you are seeing is not normal. I can only be general as I can't see the PC in question so have to go with my gut.

That's a "freeze".  Try the Weird Problems thread linked in my signature.

Antivirus is my first guess in this situation.

You could set up a test library with some local files to eliminate the NAS as a cause.
