How Do I Rename Files to Include UNC
« on: May 18, 2003, 09:34:42 am »

I'm hoping someone can help me out:

I'd like to rename all the files (i.e. the filename field) to include the UNC path.  For example, currenty the filename is C:\Video\whatever.avi.  I'd like to change it to \\Workstation1\c$\Video\whatever.avi.

Is there an easy way to do this to large parts of the MC library?

I'm playing around with my wireless network and I can't get around the fact that I need to "C" drives (one actual and one mapped).

Thanks!

Did you try with "find and replace"?

Find: C:\
Replace by: \\Workstation1\c$\

Not sure if it will work. You may try with a few files and see how it goes.

Find and replace is the way to go.  There was a fix a while back so MC would recognize that this was a rename-in-place and not try to move the files around.
I did about 2000 drive letter to UNC conversion this way last week.

Thanks!  For some reason, I couldn't find the "find and replace" on my own...  I appreciate the help.

I have noticed a bug with renaming unc paths that reflect the same file.

When I did some tag editing, I had to do it twice in order for it to change. Has something to do with the tagging order (including filename)...or somethin'.

Too busy to figure it out right now.
