o/t - automated compulsions
« on: May 15, 2003, 08:27:24 am »

Ideally I would like to have a  setup where after I rip or d/l files they would be stored in folder 'A'.
Automatically, these files would be:
encoded as needed,
tagged,
checked for level and adjusted (as done in MP3gain),
checked for integrity (as done in EncSpot),
moved to their proper folders on my media drive,
imported into MC9
search for cover art
etc.

Anyone know any programming tricks or software that can run a scheme like this on a daily basis?
I ask because I once imagined having all my music on a PC, at my fingertips . . .   and viola! years later I have it with MC9   ;D

Perhaps I am dreaming?
Perhaps once I am old and deaf?
. . . . . Perhaps MC10 ?   ::)

Well, at least as far as ripping CD's is concerned, all this is currently done in MC except for the "integrity check".

As far as level adjustment, while MC doesn't modify the actual music data in the file, it analyzes the file and stores the "replay gain" value so that upon playback (and CD burning) the tracks will all play at the same loudness. You have to have "replay gain analysis" enabled in the ripping options dialog.

LisaRCT,
what you want is called "Set and forget" technology. A task  or a project which needs several steps to be completed is defined once and saved with a name. And everytime you have to do a similar job, you just start the project, which will run the several steps automatically. Easy CD Creator has this kind of approach.

If you need copies of a cd again and again, you define a burning project once and store it. Then, whenever you need a copy of that cd, you just execute the project without dealing with the details.

It's kind of an extended smartlist or scripting. Would be a nice addition to some future MC version.
