High Framerate UHD Playback
« on: August 31, 2019, 02:58:30 pm »

Did not know 60fps content existed for UHD ... so grabbed Billy Lynn for spin ... on NVidia 1070 ... only hardware bilinear chroma upsampling work ... anything higher (even cubic) resulted in frame drops, crazy frame drops ... this is straight to 4k TV (so downscaling to 1080 might have made this unwatchable)

For 23.97 UHD 1070 can go NGU sharp high ... but 60fps really brought it down to knees

Wonder if 1060 and newer 1660 can handle Billy Lynn

There is more 50/60fps UHD material than most realise.  While there is only Bill Lynn on BD UHD @ 59.94, I have a heap of 50fps UHD material from my camcoders (even Go Pros have punched this out for years).  madVR still has all the work it needs to do to scale the Luma (colour info) from 1920x1080 to 3840x2160 as most of this material is 4:2:0 so only the Chroma (Back and White is in 1:1) but now has to do it in 16.68ms (59.94fps) or 20ms (50fps) instead of 41.71ms (23.976fps).  More powerful GPU's help but I find that you then to crack up the madVR Settings for your "std" frame rate and hence still have issues when on the HFR material..... It will never end :)

you don't use profiles in madVR? my madVR options if full of profiles where I push my GPU to the limit for each material type … this only for my main viewing screen where HTPC sits in separate room … GPU fan is really loud when pushing it lol

Yup, I too use profiles.  I use a 2070 on my main HTPC and it eats most content but found for Billy Lynn I need to do a spit where "IF (FPS > 25) and (HDR)" then lower Chroma from NGU High to NGU Med and HDR Processing to "Dumb".  I can not hear the fan at all over my 7.2.4 setup :)

Let me test on a 1660Ti and I'll get back on how this one goes.

Well the 1660Ti does nicely (it's in my Main PC connected to a 4K screen).  HDR Dumb Mode and NGU set to Medium just works on Billy Lynn.
