A view on views
« on: April 28, 2003, 01:15:58 pm »

Hi all,

I've been trying to configure the numerous views to my liking but either they aren't configurable enough or I'm in need of an updated help file.

One I mentioned a few weeks back was the fact that I have to manually change MC to show only audio files every time I start it up (staring at a screen full of folder.jpg's is really starting to bug me). Why can't there just be a 'save as default' or something here?

Recently I lost my artist names in album thumbnail view. Not a big deal but again, why can't this be configured by the user?

Going down my artist/album tree, I'd like the album view under the artist node to default to thumbnails and the tracks under the album node to default to details. Again, this can't be configured by the user.

Not knowing anything about programming, I have no idea how difficult it is to allow more user configurability(is that a word?) but there have been a lot of builds since this stuff was first mentioned.

This is about the only thing that disappoints me about MC, it has a lot of views but there is not enough configurability (there it is again) within the views for my liking.

Still a great piece of software though.

Cheers.

This has changed in recent versions.  What version are you using?

I'm still on 157, I usually only upgrade when I see something in the list of changes/fixes that I need/want.
I don't recall seeing anything that addresses my view gripes since 157.
What have I missed?
In the meantime, I'll download 161 and have a look.

Cheers.

Just installed 162 and I still can't see anything that's changed.

I still see no way to set 'show audio files' as a default.
I still can't configure what I want displayed with my thumbnails.
I still have to change views manually every time I switch between albums and tracks. I can save the columns but not the view.

Do I need a help file?
Is JimH having me on?

Cheers.

Yangus,
If you can be clearer about the problems, someone may help.

Have you tried View/List Style/Automatic?

Any view you set should apply to everything below in the tree.

Try the right click options.

The Help file should be up to date in a day or two.

Jim,
I think he is wanting separate views for child and parent views.  This woud be very nice but I guess it is a 9.1/10.0 feature.  This would be good in Hairstyle too.  I think it would definitely make more sense in Hairstyle to have a list of albums always showing the album thumbnail but a list of tracks always showing separate track thumbnails.  In MEGA ME this would make more sense to be Album view always for Albums eg in an artist view and details for tracks.  At the moment if we set album view for an artists so we see the covers for their albums we cannot then see details for the separate tracks in that album...
