Author Topic: One Library coming from 2 different external discs - problems or not?  (Read 488 times)

G'day

I'm thinking about future management of my music storage, and particularly with reference to Micro SD cards for my DAP. It may suit me to be able to have music on two different external drives for my PC, but just using one JRiver Library. Does this pose any problems for JRiver?

I don't usually have JR watching a folder - Auto Import is off (which is one tripping point I can foresee).

Are those two external drives always going to be attached whenever you run MC?

If so, that should be fine.

If you are planning on having two drives with identical files on them, and swap back and forth between them, that would be an issue. Maybe not insurmountable, but would need thought.

If one of the "drives" will be an SD card that you copy stuff to using MC, then place in the DAP, with Auto Import off that should be okay. Just turn off Fix Broken Links in Auto Import so that if you run it manually it doesn't remove links to files on the SD card. You could also use Handheld Sync for an SD card used that way.

If something else, explain some more.

Thanks Roderick. It would just be two separate drives with unique files, that would always be connected to MC, so no problems. The micro SD cards would also be separate to these drives.

Fence,
On the AutoImport settings -> Fix Broken Links option, make sure you select "no" or "Yes (protect files on missing drives)".
If you leave it as "yes" and the drive letter on those drives changes or the SD card gets ejected, the files will be automatically removed from the library.

Ok, thanks zybex. The SD cards are not storage for JRiver - just for the DAP, but the other drives could get unplugged.
