4K VISIONPLUSHDR-1000 files
« on: September 08, 2020, 01:01:00 pm »

Both mc27 and mc26 cant playback 4K VISIONPLUSHDR-1000 files which claim:
"You can play this movie without HDR TV by using MadVR. Settings and configs below.
For TV you can just use USB playback with HDR10 or Dolby Vision TV's. "

Nothing displays, MC just leaks RAM and dies.
VLC works.
They recommend For Computer Playback:

1)Download MPC-HC Latest Release
2)Install MadVR
3)Install Latest Lav Filters
4)Install a suitable codecs pack including HEVC/H.265 Decoder if you don't already have it installed.

More details will certainly help ... windows full version ... GPU you using ... GPU driver version

Using MadVR to tone map HDR requires quite powerful GPU ... equivalent of Nvidia 1060 Or better

PS. You don’t need to download MadVR or LAV for MC ... MC has its own copy

PSS. See this to gain a bit of understanding on HDR https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,126153.0.html

EDIT: 12GB of memory use is a lot ... are you using memory preload (not sure its even possible for video files) ... another explanation is - you analyzing files (audio and/or video) in background with some very high settings (number of files to analyze at one time) ... second explanation seems more likely as MC seems to access your HDD hard and CPU usage is relatevely high too

i googled this Visionplushdr ... and apparently its just some group that do HDR grading for movies.

I highly doubt what they do is better than original UHD releases.

1. studios have access to uncompressed full resolution video (luma and chroma channels)
these ppl likely only have access to UHD releases that have only half resolution chroma channel

2. studio grade colors on proffesional screens that have nearly full bt2020 colorspace coverage
i highly doubt these ppl have access to that as it cost tons of money

In short ... for best quality - stick with official releases on UHD ... unless you have enough connections, fame, and money to get DCI version

EDIT: 3. sometimes movie director gets involved in creating UHD titles to ensures it comes out as he/she intended it to be seen.
Claiming that someone can do that better is just funny
