OT -:- 21" Sony Trinitron Monitor
« on: April 10, 2003, 05:13:21 am »

Hey :)

I just bought myself a 21" Sony Trinitron monitor!!
Wahoo!!
Should be GREAT for all my films, they looked good on my 19" curved screen what to speak of my new improved 21" flat screen.
They should look awesome! :)

Here's the good news for all you Brits - I got it dirt cheap - : £200 for a 21" Sony Trinitron!!!

Dont know if you've ever been there but head over to: www.letsbuyit.com and have a look under computers.
You can get yourselves one for the same price.

Amazing deal unless I'm getting worked!

Thats where I got my last monitor from though and I paid like £200 I think it was back 3 years ago for a 19" which was amazing back then.

Yeah, just like most PC parts they've dropped now too. They're around £500-£600 normally.
PC's are sooo cheap I'm going to build myself a home server purely so that I can get practise and experience administering one.

I reckon I can build the whole thing for around £200 and have it as not bad spec too.

I cant believe how ridiculasly cheap PC's have got.

What i am really waiting to get cheaper is flat TV.
My computer is 5-6 meters away from my speakers who are close to a wall.
Imagine this hudge TV screen on the wall with sleeve art or SlideShow showing ,when you type your mail on your 19" curverd monitor...
Yes ,i know ,i will make even more typng mistakes....

The TV i speak about is  plasma [?] flat TV .
The resolution is close to the monitor one.

Now ,Nila ,tell me something : what about this new 21" flat monitor when you are working on your computer?
You are not to close when on your chair?
I have a 19" curved one and if using SlideShow , i have to wake up and be one or 2 meters more from the monitor. The same if i play a DVD

Nila,

Have you seen any of the WDM (may be GDM) 900's (Sony) over there for cheap? 24" of widescreen real estate capable of running at ungodly resolutions. Simply beautiful. Haven't seen a used one much cheaper than $1800 (~ $2000 new). They were $5000 when first released.

Am considering the 24" Sony's (two choices).

* Flat Sony widescreen 24" Crt $1,899.
* Flat Sony widescreen 24" Plasma (transistor) $2,899.

Both are computer screens.

What's you thoughts on plasma (transistor) screens.

Mine are as follows (in comparisons to CRT's)...
* To high price (transistors are expensive).
* To low resolution (transistors are expensive).
* Problem with fast moving objects (blurring of image) such as fast action & games.
* Limited viewing angle.

Any more thoughts on this ?

Doc,

1) I thought plasma's were sensitive to burn-in (unless they've gotten around it somehow). For this reason, are you sure it's not an LCD (or active matrix thing of a bob)?

2) Plasma's do nothing for upper body strength. The CRT will give you a nice workout if you move it frequently. You could simply pick it up...then set it down. I would suggest 3 times a week to really get those biceps ripped.

I'd go with the CRT...for all the reasons you mentioned. Only con is space & weight.

I have had my 19" Sony flat-screen (CRT) for about 2 years now & it is simply wonderful... very bright, sharp, great color, etc.

Bought my first Sony (a 13") in 1990 (now 13 years old) & is still working as good as the day I bought it.

So... it looks like I will buy another Sony (widescreen) when the prices drop a little more.

Glad to hear the Sony screens are so good :)

Doc - I wish I could afford options like that.
This £200 screen is as far as my options go, couldn't even afford the Llyama 514  22" which is sooo much nicer with a LOT higher resolution capabilities.

Down the line maybe when I get rich.

Anyone wanna hire an IT guy for a good salary?
