Choppy music when playing on DLNA device
« on: March 28, 2021, 02:57:39 am »

Hello,

I am trying Media Center 27 and am experiencing a problem when playing from a DLNA library to a DLNA streamer: the audio is very choppy, as if it requires to have some buffering. But even if I pause the music and restart, the music is still choppy.

My home network is made of a Asus 2400 router, QNAP TS 231, a linux laptop running MC 27 (i5 CPU, 8GB RAM) and a network player Classe Sigma 2200i. All connected with ethernet.

Playing from the DLNA library to the laptop is very smooth, but playing to the network player is choppy.
The DLNA library is a Minimserver library on the NAS. It works perfectly well when I use Bubble UPnP, and it was also working better with MC 23.

Any idea?

Thanks

If your media is on a NAS, don't use DLNA to serve it.   Import it in MC.  You can then use MC's Library Server on that machine to serve it to another copy of MC on another machine.  The wiki has topics that will help.  Start at Media Network.

What's the best way to import a library in MC: mount locally the NAS with a NFS partition, samba..., other?

On Windows, it's a network drive.  \\NASName, for example.  In MC's Import settings, you should be able to browse to it.

I'm on Linux and need to manually a mounting point for the network drive. Any recommendation?

You might need to ask that on the Linux board here.

Did you try browsing to it from Import?

Check my topic on Linux, to setup MC on a Pi. This includes an automount on boot.

@JimH: Linux doesn't automatically shows NAS folders on the file explorer the way Windows does

@Wheaten: awesome, thanks for the post
