Some things may not work.  If that worries you, please wait until Media Center is out of beta.

1. NEW: More art updates -- including new default MEGA-ME skin!

4. Fixed: Media Center was incorrectly determining file type.
5. Fixed: Some ASX files were incorrectly parsed.
6. Fixed: Media Center would sporadically fail to play next file in playlist.
7. Changed: CD labeler tool will put up a warning if user has a very large number of files selected.
8. Fixed: Changing the display name of the "Track #" field would make "Rename from Info" not use 2 digit numbers.
9. Fixed: Update Homepage did not work if used from inside of Start web page.
10. Fixed: Media Scheduler would record incorrect channel if the channel was renamed.
11. Changed: Shift+Insert added as Paste shortcut.

I love the new default skin! Never before have I run in mega-me skinned mode until now. I am finally very satsified by this look for MC. It's flashy enough to catch my eye, but clean and modest enough to be functional and professional. It blends very well with the rest of Windows XP. Thanks!

Have you considered putting in a drop shadow on the new MC icon that shows up when there are no visualizations or cover art?  It would clean up the edges of the icon a bit.  It's a bit pixelicious right now.

There is no way to start CD Labeler or Media Editor on my system, neither stand-alone from the Start-Menu nor from inside MC9. Deinstalled MC9 and reinstalled again. Nothing changed. The System tries to load the program, but it never  pops up.

In earlier versions there was an error message in the Event Viewer. Now this message has gone!

Anybody else having this problem?

Sorting problem ? ? ?

Have default view scheme Artist/Album as the main scheme.

Tree shows as first, second & third artist:

3 Doors Down

10,000 Maniacs

311

However, in the List it shows up like this:

10,000 Maniacs

3 Doors Down

311

I think the tree is not ordering properly in this case. Yes / No?

And the gridline problem still appears. I pulled my posts lastnight to double check. Excel draws gridlines properly to the tabs in both columns and rows. I do recall mentioning this in the MJ8 beta threads a long time ago (and a galaxy far far away). It was discovered and fixed. Soooo, I guess I'll leave it at that.

PS - I think JaredH might have had this appear on his machine at one time, too.

liked the new skin a lot.

consider directory icons for file locations in media library. (I am almost sure that you have already planned that).

I've just started using MC 9. Prior to that I have been running MJ 8. MC 0 has some grea features. Love the new PixOS skin and the new icons. You folks do GREAT work.

I have a small problem with burning a new CD. The process seems to work very well until the end. After the last track is burned it won't close and finally eject to let me know the burn is complete. I finally have to click the cancel button. Then a new box appears asking if I want to cancel. I click yes but nothing hppens. I finally hit ctrl-alt-del and the task manager appears showing that MC is not responding. I click end task and MC 9 closes. Funny thing is when I reopen MC 9 to check the CD it has burned and palys fine. Strange.

Bugs (ripping):
1. Using the internal MP3 encoder (Lame) with custom command-line option --tc "comment text", MC is not retaining the comment data after the rip...MC is replacing the ID3v1 comment (that Lame.exe added after the rip completed) with nulls (blanked out).  MC and MJ used to retain the comment data at least...I fully understand MC/MJ updating other tag data after a rip completes, but please retain the comment field.

Bugs for Media Center ver. 9.0.141 beta

New

  • mini-me : The quickplay menu in mini-me doesn't act the same way that it does everywhere else. It's adding everything to Playing Now instead of Playing it. It also isn't showing the instructions on how to double click etc, like it does elsewhere.

  • Video : Playback of any filetype through WMP other than WMV causes strange behavior. Although MC is capable of showing every video file in the playlist, every other track change fails. So if I start playback of a list of mpg's and\or avi's, MC will play the first one, and then on a track change (either manual or automatic) MC stops playback and the Player Window displays the text "Waiting". A click on Next or Prev will play the next file just fine. If, while MC is "Waiting" I click Stop, MC displays an error. WMP9 is installed on this system.

  • Video : MEGA-ME & Windowed isn't sizing videos properly (those being played by WMP). They always take up the entire Playing Now window. Fullscreen is fine.

  • Video : Quicktime doesn't clear the Playing Now window before playing the next file. You can see remnants of the previous file beneath the new one.

  • Video : Quicktime playback is really flaky. MC doesn't respond as quickly as normal while Quicktime files are playing. I have Quicktime 6 installed.

  • mini-me : On skins that use an actual thumb button on Playlists (instead of a scrollbar type) if you scroll to the top of the playlist, then double click a song to start it playing, the thumb button jumps to bottom. The list itself stays where it is. This also occurs if you scroll to the bottom and double click a song. The thumb button jumps to the top.

  • CD Burning : MC is still asking me if I want to burn a Data or Audio CD when I add a data only folder from My Computer within MC.

  • Fill Track Numbers from List Order really took a huge hit when File Properties was integrated into the interface. It's now impossible to re-order files in Content View without first adding them to a playlist, which hinders the usability of this feature.

  • Clean File Properties : Running this on a file by an artist with a name like T.A.T.U. results in T.a.T.U.

  • Search : Picking the Full Albums Search modifier should be a toggle menu rather than just an add-only option. Choosing Full Albums more than once results in multiple Full Album criteria being added to the search bar.

  • Search : Date related search items are using a nearly impossible to understand format based on seconds in order to specify criteria.

  • Search : The Sorting box still doesn't offer much clue as to what certain modifiers like -d accomplish. It just lets me know I can use it. But what does it do? And what other options like it are available?

  • Playing Now : Moving the column with the playing icon in it to another position takes the playing icon along with it.

  • Playing Now : Deleting the currently playing file from Playing Now stops playback. Clicking Play results in an error message that says "Please select file(s) to play." Double clicking another file in Playing Now will restart playback. Clicking Next does nothing, but clicking Prev, then Play plays the first file in the list.

  • View Scheme Groups : Using the wizard to create search criteria for a view scheme isn't filtering out things based on the criteria specified for the group that the view scheme is in. For instance, creating a View Scheme in the Audio Group, if I try to specify a genre in the search criteria, I'm being presented with genres that only belong to images or videos, etc. These shouldn't show up, as the View Scheme Group should be filtering these out.

  • Search : If you choose a Search Criteria, then choose Edit by Typing, and hit Ctrl-C to copy and go to a different smartlist and hit Ctrl-V to paste, the entire list of Search Criteria is copied instead of just the one you wanted.

  • Adding images and music to Playing Now isn't consistent. If audio is already in Playing Now, then Adding images to Playing Now results in those images being tacked on to the end of Playing Now (but are never shown - even when their turn in Playing Now arrives), if music is played first, then images are played, Playing Now is wiped and only images are shown, but if images are played first, and then music is added, the desired result of images and audio simultaneously is acheived.

  • If I Play images, then Play a playlist with music and video in it, the slideshow clears immediately even if the first file to play is Audio.

  • When viewing images and listening to music, if Playing Now contains a video, playing that video will clear all images from slideshow.

  • Image List View : This doesn't select files correctly. If you select one file, then hold control to select a few more, that works. If you hold down shift and select a range, that works as well. But when holding down Control + Shift to add a range of files to the currently selected files, all of the currently selected files become unselected.

5. Fixed: Some ASX files were incorrectly parsed.

Thank you!

Everything now works correctly from IE 6. I am still having some problems with Mozilla, but  I can use "Save Link As..." as a workaround while you work on bigger problems.

Column sorting still has bug
« Reply #12 on: April 02, 2003, 06:41:54 pm »

Sorting columns in the artist view is all well and good, but if you then browse to an artist with only one song in it, all sorting customization is lost and you have to recustomize the view again.

I offer you these icons for MC9:

Click here to download 24-bit BMP file

Icons flow together in version .141. The first suggestion provides space between icons with as few changes as possible.

My children don't know what an antenna is. :) They identify the difference between the two by what's on the screen. Suggestion 2 follows this theme and retains the CD as a circle, as in the original. The magnifying glass has a rim and is more easily recognized to my eyes.

There are a few more TV images if you like them better. The surf scene isn't repeated... the lower one has a different horizon and space below the image.

Still Open:

1. Mp3's imported from a CD do not display images stored in the file during playback in visualizations they are in the database. Also still not showing the format info in properties.

2. Can't seem to create a View Scheme that will show a CD of mp3's in the tree by Volume Name/Filename. Files on hard drives show correctly under this scheme but the CDs do not show the folders in the left pane tree at all. The correct path is shown in the database.

3. When in window mode the file properties window gets lost under the Media Center window when another track is clicked in the library. Should at least have an option for "Always on top".

4. Resizing Media Center horizontally in mega-me mode intermittently causes album art being displayed in a visualization to revert to the the MJ Surfer. (Art is inside MP3 file)   And yes it still is reverting to MJSurfer not the new graphic. This may happen only once per night so it will probably be hard to reproduce. Sequence that seems to cause it most often is:
  1. Right click on tree branch in left pane.
  2. Click on play
  3. Double click vertical bar to close left pane.

I've had this bug for a while now, but it's getting annoying, so I post it today.

It happens regularly that when I pause (not stop, but pause) a song and some time later (not withing 5 seconds - that's no problem; more like 1 minute or more) I want to play it again, MC just freezes. Getting rid of this freezed MC isn't easy either: the way I do it is by rightclicking the MC-icon in the taskbar and choosing Close. This I have to do THREE times before it actually closes.
It happens on my W2K-p.c. as well as on my XP-computer. The latter gives a bugreport, which I include:

============
szAppName : Media Jukebox.exe     szAppVer : 9.0.137.0     szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0     offset : 00000000
==============

Hope you can find the cause.

Build 140 keeps writing the MC-version-nr into the comment-field of MP3-ID3V2 >:(, I doubt it was removed now (since it's not in the changelog).

Why do you do this?? Let's remove it!!

Raist

EDIT: Just checked it, this build (141) saves it's version-nr still to the comment-field!! WHY??

By the way, new mega-me skin is really nice!! That's exactly what I've been looking for all time in MJ8, since I love Aqua-design! Hope to see a new mini-me using MC-icon!!

Bug:
  • Highlighting the search bar with text in it so all the text is selected results in the text turning illegible and becoming wierd looking.
  • File misclasification bug still around and still has bugs with video playback.

Firstly Love the new skin  ;D

There does not seem to be an option for adding a  'Find' Icon to the toolbar any more. Don't know about other users but I found this useful.
The 'text options' are a bit hit and miss - I am using 'selective text on right' but as you will see from the attached image not all icons are displaying the text.

Observation (or optimization needed):
1. When managing a data CD burn list, MC goes into 'slow as molasses' mode when you attempt to navigate the folders of a burn list and/or rename folders in the burn list.  It seems like MC has to do a lot of 'thinking' each time you click on a folder and press F2 to rename a folder.  Maybe I need a high-powered PC to fix this, but it seems a little optimization of the code might help too...each folder only has about 8 to 12 songs in them.  It appears to take 2 or 3 seconds each time you click on a folder...it appears that MC is doing it's 'Analyzing devices...' thing each time you click on a folder (though that dialog is not displayed each time).  Clicking on the CD-RW drive icon during a data CD build takes about 5 seconds to display the list of files (if say 100 files are in the burn list).  So, can some optimization be done to make this whole process more 'enjoyable'??

That's what "selective text on right" means. Not all icons will have text on the right. Only "selective" ones. So who selects which icons get it? I'm assuming the programmer.

I really like the new skin and think you guys need a mini-me version of it eventually.  I also like a lot of the new icons but I do not like the little trumpet icon for for genres.  I'd rather have something simple like right-pointing solid triangle or something.  I know the icons are works-in-progress but I like just about all the ones I've seen except for that one!

I am having a problem with the filter. I check the "Show Only Audio Files" and all is well. Close MC and the default "Show All Files" is checked. How to make it stick I wonder.

CD Burning
Still having a problem burning CD.  The tracks burn to CD fine but tags are not for correct files!  I'm fairly sure Media Center reads the CD and tells me the tracks are the way they were originally imported into the CD burner window--but not way they were re-ordered and then burned on the CD.

Thanks - but its not working, for me at least.

One more bug/inconsistency:

No properties in the right click menu for the top hits playlist, which allows you to set the number of files in the playlist. I had to hunt for this in the Edit menu.  This playlist seems to be different to the other autosmartlists - no search wizard bar appears defining it. Properties should be in the right click menu, or perhaps changing this playlist to

[Media Type]=[Audio] [Number Plays]=>1 ~n=100

(which I think is equivalent) for consistency.

Tools menu on menubar is painfully slow coming up.  First time is worst but even subsequent picks the other menu bars just drop immediately but Tools just sits there for awhile and then drops. :)

Shouldn't the view change, at least to Playing Now, when a Image or Video file is double clicked?  When looking in Media Library tree if I double click an image file - an Audio file begins to play (first one on whatever list I'm looking at) and if I switch to Playing Now window I see info for mp3 which is playing.  If I right click the image file in the list and choose Play--then I can see it in Playing Now window, but I must switch to that....Media Center doesn't change to that view.  Sometimes when I click on Image file I get full screen view of that image file.  This behavior is erratic.  If I'm in Image tree in the Media Library and click on image file then no mp3 file plays but view automatically changes to full screen to see the image.

1. Bug/Crash - When trying to access files thru my computer in 141 MC crashes repeatedly. No other programs were running when this occurred. This did not happen in 140 although it happened intermitantly in previous versions. MC respond properly when accessing the same files from outside MC.

2. After installing 141 I found a file MXUIShell.MXE on my desktop. What is this ? Do I need it?

Thanks for your help.

This could be expected functionality but it seems to me that the "Properties" button on the tool bar should be a toggle.  Right now, you can click it to bring the properties window up but clicking it again does nothing.

Maybe I'm not doing this right, but the list data type doesn't seem to be working.

It says it's semicolon delimited.

A semicolon is ; correct?

Because if I put in: test1;test2;test3;test4
I get : test1;test2;test3;test4

in the list.

The same happens if I try test1; test2; test3; test4

Moving folders in MC is not working.  Regardless of which folder I choose, it says that the move has failed (and suggests that it might be because another program is using files in that folder).  The remarkable thing about this is that I am moving folders via samba shares since I keep all of my music on my server.  Could this be a samba issue?

'bus

It's got to be. It's been working fine since B140. Can you move them via a Windows Explorer window (if not then it's a rights thing).

I'm 100% certain it's not a permissions issue and, to be certain, I tested it via Explorer and it moved about just fine.
