SOLVED MC28: Strange CPU usage playing SACD ISO

Hello, this just to notify you that I noticed a strange CPU usage when playing SACD ISO.

During SACD ISO play my laptop CPU is keeping swinging up and down from 40% to 90 and even 99%.
Even if the audio is played correctly, no cut, no drop, all fine at audio level, I think there is something "not optimal" going on.

Just for your further detail, when I play FLAC, APE and so on, I don't have such a kind of CPU behavior and the overall CPU usage is quite steady around 40%.

Kindly let me know if there is anything I can troubleshoot or optimize.

It needs to resample which is expensive.  You could try using both resamplers as one might be faster.

Hello @Matt, thanks for your prompt reply but I do not understand what shall I have to do.

I set only 1 resample frequency for all in the Output Format panel (everything there set to 96kHz output).

What else have I to set?

Well that's simply a heavy lift.  You could try toggling SoX in Options (search options), but it might just be too much for your laptop.

To add to what Matt said, on-the-fly DSD to PCM (and PCM to DSD) conversions in Media Center are very resource intensive, meaning they need a pretty good CPU to be able to handle the conversion on-the-fly otherwise you'll encounter issues like those you've described. You can workaround this by pre-converting all your SACD content to 96 kHz PCM (FLAC, APE, etc.) and playing those files back. It's also worth mentioning that DSD to PCM (and PCM to DSD) conversions are lossy in nature, so something to keep in mind if that kind of thing matters to you.

Hello @Awesome Donkey, thank you for your tip, I will take into consideration in case I will not be able to play SACD on the fly anymore.
For the moment, even if probably running at its limits, my laptop can play that.
