Ripping problems anyone?
« on: March 13, 2003, 07:21:04 am »

KingSparta and JeffH (and others??) have reported problems with MC 9 crashing at the end of the last track when ripping certain CD's. I haven't been able to reproduce this here and I'm wondering if this is fixed in the current build or if you're still having problems.
I bought the CD "Drops of Jupiter" by Train which was mentioned as a problem CD but it works fine every time I rip it. I've used various drives (SCSI, IDE), encoding, secure rip and other modes.
Any more information on this problem if it exists would be helpful, such as more CD titles, encoding settings, ripping settings, system info, etc.

Thanks,
John T.

(added note: I'm currently working on some known bugs in the auto rip system, I'm mainly looking for plain old CD ripping problems here)

Is there anything in common between the CD's that don't work, for example are they all CD-extra type disks with a data track on them?

Does it make any difference if you turn off "calc replay gain", "get cover art", "play sound", "eject disk", and "use yadb"?

Thanks.

David Gray, White Ladder (an "Enhanced CD" with a data track).  As soon as the last track (11 - Babylon II) is finished ripping, MC dissapears.   Happens only with the TDK 4800B drive, not the Sony.  The settings of "analyze", "simultaneous", and rip mode don't matter.

This is a strange one. I picked up the James Taylor CD and can't get it to fail on any machine or cd drive I try it on. I'll check with Matt this morning, he was going to try it at home.
Do you have other computers to try it on?
Just for the heck of it, check that the "auto action" for ripping and playing is set to "nothing" in the options/devices dialog.

I wonder if this problem is related to the CD drive or it's driver software. I'll see if I can track down one of these drives you guys are using.
Thanks for the report.
