MC9, TV and Video Recorder!
« on: March 13, 2003, 05:46:10 am »

As I want to copy a number of personal video tapes to hard disk I connected my SVHS video recorder to my PC. Recording with MC9 works fine! That's the easy thing.

But not wanting to move my video recorder around all the time to watch a video directly on TV, I tried to hand over control to MC9. For this purpose I am cloning my PC monitor on the TV monitor. That works fine as well except that I do not see the video picture inside MC9 - the video screen is black, I only see the video picture on the PC monitor.  Only when I change from window mode to full screen I can see the picture for a very short time, then it blacks out again! Any clue why? I know that this is the case with commercial DVD's that have Macrovision Security, but with videos?

My infrastructure is set up like that:
1) The video recorder is connected to a Pinnacle TV card with a S-Video cable. I have installed the BT-WDM drivers. There is also an audio cable from video recorder to Line-In.

2) I have a Geforce 4 TI Graphic card and TV-out is connected with my TV set with SCART and Nview is set to clone mode.

Do I miss any key in the whole picture?

Two more issues:

1) Is there a way to synchronize video and audio in MC9? When I stop the video capture the sound goes on on its own until I stop the video recorder? Can anything be done here?

2) Tried to connect the video recorder to the Video-In of the Geforce 4 Ti graphic card. Installing the WDM Video capture driver from Nvidia crashes MC and WXP. And there seems to be no way to make the BT-WDM driver to work for both Video-In's (The one from the graphic card and the one from the TV card).  Or is this card not supported at all?

Appreciate any help or suggestions! Thanks!

I have not tried the GeForce 4 / Pinnacle TV combination myself. So I am speaking from my experience with ATI AIW cards.

With ATI, you have to set the TV out as your primary output, and PC monitor as your secondary, in order to see video on TV set, unless you use "Theater mode". You might want to try switching primary/secondary on your GeForce setup, if there is such a thing.

About sychronizing audio and video when shutting down MC, the problem is that most TV cards take audio directly to the sound card, and sound continues until the source is shut down. I will try and see what I can do though.

Yaobing,

thanks a lot, switching primary/secondary was the solution :)

The drawback is that in some way you loose the capacity to set resolutions individually, so that the PC monitor now runs only with 800x600. Not very proper, but for those times that you want to enjoy video on TV we can do the switch by hand.

It's not really easy to merge the Hifi/Video and PC world together >:(
