Genre/Artist/Album sorting
« on: March 10, 2003, 08:24:04 am »

Hi.
Trying to make a somewhat large classical collection live side by side with rock etc, I'm having a problem with genre sorting. I normally tag artists' name under 'artist'. Sometimes there will be 'Various Artists' as 'Artist' and using 'Album artist' for perfoming artist (i.e. Cafe del Mar under 'Artist', 'Aromabar' under 'Album artist' etc.)
Likewise (almost), tagging classical music, I have just begun tagging composer as 'Artist' and performer as 'Album artist'. I thought this would make sense using Genre/Artist/Album sorting (Like Classical/Bach/Organ Works), but what appears in the left column, is Genre/Album Artist/Album. How come? If someone just could give me a clear hint of where to find a thorough description in the Help menu, I'd be glad . .
(Sorry if this got a bit long and hard to understand)

Can you not add a new view scheme to do what you need. Right click on video in the left window, add new scheme etc...

Seems to be a good idea. I guess the problem is that MC simply has too many features for someone who may be a bit impatient. Thanks a lot.

For the classical music, try taging the composer in the composer field and the performer (ie. "Weiner Philharmoiker/Herbert  von Karajan") in the artist field.

Then, create view schemes.  I have several:
Artist/Composer
Composer/Album/Artist
Composer/Artist/Album
Genre/Composer/Album Artist (auto)
Genre/Composer/Album/Artist
etc.

Thanks for your reply and suggestions. I'll try this. But first of all it seems I'll have to learn more about the use of view schemes. For the past two days, the 'How to use view schems' in the help folder has read 'the page cannot be found'.  perhaps i should tell someone about this?

You need to remember that MC9 is still in beta, and as is customary the help files are left until the release version is to be finalised.
