Hi there I am long time user. I recently started dabbling in Linux which means this time around for MC30 I bought a full licence instead of just Windows one.

Is there a way I can restore a windows library backup int the Linux version to replicate most things. Except perhaps the disk drive letter labelling all the media files are in the same place. I want to replicate all the themese etc I have in windows version- is there a way?

It can be as easy as making a back-up in Windows and restore in Linux. If you are using Media Network, and you have restored with Settings then you might want to recreate an access key and change the port numbers for your new library. I am not sure about the skins. You might have to download them again but that is very easy.

Thanks for the tip, and I gave it a go. Largely successful except it will take ages to update the library. I had to set on Auto import dialog to fix broken links so that it removed all my M: drive references - but largely it's intact. About 80% preserved their import date so end up in the same sequence I am used to looking at them. About 20% for some reason gained yesterday's date. Well worth the fix ups considering I don't have to transfer all setting between platforms which would take ages in my dual boot set up.

You could also try the portable library function (File->Library->Portable Library). There always seem to be a few exceptions but for the most part it works well.
It basically allows you to specify a base path to the root of the files that is operating system dependent then MC will map the path separators automatically.
Of source you should always be sure you have a database backup before you try this.

Indeed, I am using this for my Linux versions. Since I maintain my library on a Mac and also run it on two Linux machines the Portable Library function comes in very handy. All I have to do is back-up and restore. Works flawlessly for me.
