Importing images into MC request
« on: February 27, 2003, 12:16:47 am »

Guys,
When I import image files into MC (.jpg) all the files have then to be assigned into seperate albums. I have all the images stored in the relevant directories on my hard drive. Can I get MC to import and create albums based on the directory the image file is in automatically. i.e

C:\graphics\house\front.jpg

MC would create an album called house and place front.jpg in it...

This would really speed up the importing of images into MC and should not be too hard to implement, or maybe you can already do it and I don't know how :)

One way to do this is to add the images you want to import to playing now but dont import them into the library yet.  Highlight the files and then using the fill properties from filename tool tell it that you want to use the directory name for album and the filename for image name in MC.  Once this is done imprt into the library and they will be in the correct directory...

Hi rossp,

What you can do is the following:

1/ Import your images (.jpg) from the root directory where your albums are located (e.g. from c:\Graphics)
2/ Go to the 'recently imported' playlist
3/ select all and rightclick/Tools/Fill Properties from filename...
4/ in the dialog check Directories and set [ALBUM]
also check Filename and set [NAME]
5/ click Ok and your directories names will be in album with names in name.

If you want you can add a custom 'place' field.
1/ Tools/Options/Tree & View
2/ add a custom field called 'place'

Then when you 'fill Properties from filename..' just specify [PLACE] in the Filename box and that's it.

House will be in 'album' and front in 'place'.

hope this helps.

have a nice day

The other way would be to import all of your images first then click on the images view scheme which will show all images regardless of album.  Click Ctrl A to select all and then right click->Tools->Fill properties from filename.  This will do it on all files in one sweet batch...

Shouldn't take more than five minutes to do hundreds of files...

Sweet...as you say MC rocks!!  Good work J RIiver!! ;D
