Idea to Improve YADB Database / CD Lookup
« on: October 04, 2023, 05:07:22 am »

Insert CD to rip and the CD lookup dialog box appears with the drop down box
with multiple selections... sometimes there are 5 or 6 choices for CD info and
i've ripped 100's of CD's over the years. A lot of the choices have wrong song name
spelling ect.

Would it be viable to re-code jriver so you

Insert CD
CD dialog box appears with the exact CD details
Drop down box only for the 'genre' as this is the only thing that would change being peoples different opinions on the genre the artist is.

For the multiple choices for CD info that already comes up for existing CD's, maybe add like buttons
next to each selection.. the more likes a CD info choice receives for being the correct information for the CD,
the other selections slowly get automatically deleted. New CD's that are being added can maybe be reviewed by specific
people and approved, with the genre being the only thing that can be changed.

or, Wikipedia CD info and track listings on album CD Wiki page is very reliable in my opinion, maybe jriver can be programmed
to connect to those pages and retrieve CD info somehow.. the Wiki pages are all layed out the same and have the same headings
and CD info seems to always match actual CD perfectly, in my experience.

Album Name
Released
Genre
Track Listing

That happens automatically now, based on which art users choose most frequently.

Your best metadata sources for accuracy are going to be Discogs or Music Brainz in my experience. You can also look into AMG. I quite like Discogs because it tends to be easier to locate a specific pressing you're dealing with (or in the case of dubious pressing information but a unique track listing, there's a good chance you can figure out what you actually have)

Parsing Wikipedia is fine but I think you'd have a better time interacting with Discogs or Music Brainz. In the case of Music Brainz they have their 'Picard' software which is half decent and I often use it for one offs.
