This is on my wishlist for the future too, but it's probably not going to happen anytime soon as only a handful of desktop environments support it. The main one that'd need to support it first is likely going to be Xfce (since that's Bob's DE of choice) and from what I read Wayland support in Xfce is still at least several years away.

In the meantime MC does run fine (though with some window sizing issues) through XWayland.
