Undo/Redo Feature
« on: February 12, 2003, 05:12:58 am »

I was using MJ and changed views after having done nothing. I moved from AV2 to 'Search Library' and it suddenly started saying: 'Updating 57 Songs'.

I dont know if AV waits till it's finished being used before it does updates or if it was just MJ changing something else. Maybe it was a genuine update but
I have NO way of knowing what was changed and all I know is that 57 of my files had their tags changed.

I hit Undo around 10 times because I dont know what was changed so dont want to take the risk. The reason I hit it 10 times is because we have NO indication of what is being undone or if anything is even being undone at all.

We need some kind of 'Log' or 'History' like there is in adobe photoshop of all the actions that have taken place with the ability to undo them.

An example of the log:

* Changed the Artist field of 57 Songs
* Changed the image field of 2 Songs
* Changed the Album field of 7 songs

Even better would be if we could expand each item and see a detailed list of what was changed in which files with the ability to undo individual items.

All this requires is a simple text log file saved in MJ. If the log file was zipped as well then it would make the file pathetically small and so no real issue to keep.

Give us an option of how many days log we wish to keep.

I've had this happen to me a few times where MJ comes up with a messaging saying it's updating a large number of files with no indication of which files it's doing what to and it's VERY scary thinking a LOT of hard tagging work might be getting completely destroyed.

Each time I just hit undo around 10 or so times as I have no indication of if it's actually being undone.

One of the most important things about our library is the tags and if the changes to these are going to be made seemlessly then there really has to be more information provided over whats being done to our library.

Many of us have spent probably hundreds of hours on the tags and they could all be messed up easily without us knowing.

See if you can sort out whether it's Album View or Media Center, please.

Nila, as stated in the other thread, we're aware of how Undo / Redo works and hope to improve it someday.

Thanks.

I had the same thing happen AFTER moving from AV2 to the media library...It was MC giving the update box, but it was (as in NIla's case) after using AV2...don't know what was "updated", Nila's idea is a good one anyway, an AV2 bug or not. Thanks,
