Analyze Video questions
« on: June 21, 2024, 12:03:33 pm »

I would be grateful if someone can answer a couple questions about the Analyze Video feature:

1) Does MC automatically analyze video when a video file is imported?

2) What is the best method to search for video files that have not been analyzed?

It seems no one knows the answers so I tried to figure it out myself without success.

I watched Fields with Values as I:

1) navigated to an unimported video
2) imported the video
3) analyzed the video

and I saw no change in any field.

4 months ago I analyzed every video in my library, and thereafter for every new video imported I have analyzed the video.

I am wondering if that step in my workflow is a waste of time?

I made a related request awhile back https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,135469.msg938361.html#msg938361

Didn't get any engagement.

Thanks. Maybe the developer of the Analyze Video feature is no longer with the company?

Analyze Video is always run when Media Center imports a video file, or even looks at it, the option in the context menu is only offered to re-run it because we extended the data it gathers back in MC30 I think it was.
As of now, you should never see a video file in MC itself that does not have this data, unless it has been in the database for a while already. There is no way to even turn it off, as its just the basic file information gathering that takes under a second per file.

We don't directly track if a file has been analyzed, because its just going to happen to all files. If you want to know if a file needs re-analysis, because its been in the database for a while, you can check one of the new fields, like [Video Codec]

The only optional feature here is detecting black bars, and if you want to check if that has run, there is the [Video Black Bar Analysis Report], which you can check for emptiness, or also check what things it detected.
