Using MC as Standalone, or as Server?
« on: June 18, 2024, 10:26:45 pm »

It's been a long time since using MC. And i've just started picking up on using it again for my collection. Thing is, is that I while I want to spin up a new MC server for edits and file changes, I don't really have the space to store another machine running MC 24/7 at this time. So for my bedroom HTPC, I was thinking of just using MC as standalone with its own library from the only media server (NAS) that I have running. It would make editing files a pain since I would have to use the HTPC machine to do it so I would rather just use it to watch my media with. I may eventually setup a MC server later. Does anyone run MC like this?

Most editing can be done from a client computer. I don't remember exactly what things you can't change from a client so hopefully someone else can chime in. So you can run the server on the 24/7 machine and manage your library (and play music or videos) from another.
