Author Topic: Prepend Playlist Sequence Number to Converted File in Lieu of CD Burning Support  (Read 229 times)

I understand JRiver was built for Windows, and I understand CDRs are antiquated because cloud. Just acknowledging all that 'cause replies pointing out same ain't gonna be productive. Which is to say…

I use the Mac (or Linux) version (just the Mac version lately) of Media Center.
I would like to burn some playlists to CDR.
Far as I know Mac version does not support CD burning, still, and I assume never will.
I do not want to have to hunt down all playlist entries track by track from across my HDD (I use JRiver to manage my library, after all) and copy paste and rename them into sequence, so that a free program that does support CD burning in a super easy Mac focused UI like XLD can burn the discs in the correct order.

My current workaround:

• Open playlist in JRiver.
Convert Format… (limiting conversion to one track at time) to a single, consistent lossless format (at 16bit {XLD truncates, JRiver dithers, so do that here if needed), 44.1kHz {XLD will not burn disc from files of different sample rates}) into a dedicated folder.
• Sort oldest to newest by Date Created (not Date Modified; even limiting conversion to one track at time, sequence can be off when sorted by Modified. Unfortunately, even this fails sometimes - like if some files need resampling or bit depth conversion and others do not - and in some cases listing by Modified might work instead, or ya might have to sort manually, ugh).
• Use a handy not free application like A Better Finder Rename to prepend sequence number to front of each track (free version could do this, but only 10 tracks at time which complicates; or, could do manually).
• Open XLD and File» Open Folder As a Disc… and Burn CD

Have not tested extensively but should work. Would be great if JRiver could prepend sequence number when converting (think there may be Windows JRiver script that does) or of course if Media Center just had CD burn support instead of having to go through all these steps
• Music Library Manager, paid
• OS File Manager and / or batch rename program, paid
• CD burning software, free

So if anyone's got an easier idea for a library managed in Media Center to burn such discs, please join in. Otherwise, above is shared for anyone who might ever want to burn a CDR from a playlist created in JRiver Media Center for Mac.
