How about a JRiver LITE version?
« on: February 20, 2025, 09:34:59 pm »

How about a LITE version. or a version where you can select what components to install. I want JRiver for hi-rez playback only. I dont need all the other stuff, video, cd burning, etc etc etc etc. it has too much stuff! A nice streamlined audio playback version only would be nice!

Try View>Audio Only mode
This disables the Image and Video features

Then in addition to using Audio Only Mode you can go into MC's Options > General > Features section and disable other features in MC you don't use.

That raises an interesting business question. Many software packages have a regular and a Pro version, presumably because they think some people will not buy at the Pro level price. Once people buy the regular version, some will update to the Pro version. So, would a Lite or Audio only version attract customers who would not buy at the full price? Or would it simply mean people who were going to buy now would opt for the lower price and cannibalize revenue?

Adobe Photoshop is an example - Elements is Photo only and Premiere adds video editing.

Jim has probably already worked through this, but it is food for thought.

I have already purchased BUT...as an audiophile, if there was an stripped down audio playback only mode, It would make me MORE interested!!

Personally, I don't think it'd be worth it. It'd be having to essentially do double the work maintaining two versions at the same time along with needing to build them, then on top of that there's Mac and Linux so even more builds. Having Audio Only Mode and the additional options in General > Features that can be disabled probably is sufficient enough to accomplish the same thing, more-or-less, without needing to maintain more builds.
