Tagging Mode and v11
« on: July 06, 2004, 08:53:01 pm »

Trying to do something here but I'm having some problems.

I have setup some semicolon delimited tags (about 5 of them) and I'm going through some of my images to get them tagged right.

Here's the problem. I setup a tag that tells me that I have analyzed the image. I use a search filter to hide the image afterwards.

Well MC doesn't like what I'm doing. As soon as I set the analyed flag, the panes dissappear but the file remains in the list. So basically, once I've done a tag, I have to readd my values again to the delimited tags because MC will not show those tags if the file is not there...but it is technically, because I see it.

Maybe I missed something but I though MC showed all tags for a given view scheme underneath the tags shown for the files in tagging mode. Either way everything is unassigned and make tagging mode that much harder to use. I just want to click, not have to retype everything.

Another note is when using delimited fields, I think it would be better if MC went through the list of actual entries (between the colons) instead of showing the whole thing when adding a new field. I always have to re-edit before I can use it.

This is by design if its what i think u mean.
mc only shows values for items that are meant to be in the current view (match the search criteria) and so you do have to keep re-entering the same value again and again to use it when tagging. this is exactly the reason why i stopped using mc to tag my images. it just made it a long and painful process.

Sorry if I'm missing something obvious, but have you tried tagging via the view schemes?

The pane lists are built from the visible files.

The alternative is to always show everything, but it's pretty messy to see 200 albums when I click "Bob Dylan" instead of his few albums.

Could you sort by whether they're analyzed instead of removing them from the view?

Is there some way we could show what you need without making a mess the rest of the time?

Could you do something special with the Unassigned value?

I tag images for People, Places and Events.  I find what needs to be tagged by clicking on Unassigned.  I go field by filed, so if Unassigned is selected for People, All will be selected for Places and Events.

When I do this, there are almost no choices available in that particular field.  Is there some way that when using the Unassigned value, all of the vlaues (or maybe the most common ones) would be available.

I'm at work so I might not be describing things accurately.

Is there a better way than what I am doing, or do others have a similar problem.

how about showing his few albums at the top followed by a seperator and then all the other albums.

the album might not even have been meant to be a bob dylan one and might be there by accident and need to be changed to another name totally.

also with photos this helps alot.

Would it be better if panes didn't filter panes to their right when in tagging mode?

We'll try this in the next MC 11 build:

Changed: Panes no longer filter panes to their right when in tagging mode.

Let us know if you think it's better or worse.

I don't know. I'm thinking it's worse because now sometimes when clicking on pane entries, no files show up because the way it's not filtered. Plus now panes don't update for new changes which makes it even more harder for tagging because what you clicked on doesn't show that you did anything.

Maybe like what I said at the top but have the file dissappear too. It was dissappearing in the panes but the file still would be there when it shouldn't.

What about the idea of showing the other entries at the bottom of the pane? I thought MC used to do that. Not all entries, just what's relevant to the search criteria.

Maybe I'm just not making any sense out of all of this.
