tagging ogg files
« on: September 29, 2002, 07:11:48 am »

I don't like the way MJ9 creates tag name:

MEDIAJUKEBOX:TOOLNAME for example

I would prefer only TOOLNAME (the same for the customp tag).

Let say I set a custom tag called MEDIASOURCE. In fact, it is renamed by MJ to MEDIAJUKEBOX:MEDIASOURCE.

If I give my file to a friend who use the same tag name but not the same player/editor, I will get two different tag names for the same kind of information.

It is not a theorical situation as some people are trying to set "standard" tag names to tag ogg files (see http://reactor-core.org/ogg-tag-standard.html).

I realize that this sentence is not very clear (may be it is for that there is no answer yet). I could reformulate this way:

If I give my file to a friend using another audio software (because he uses linux for example), he will have different field names according the file has been tagged on his system or in my system. It is not easy to manage and it is a pity when there is some "standard" field names defined.

Is there a particular reason to name the custom fields this way ?
