quick play
« on: September 25, 2002, 02:27:08 am »

ok..I gotta type this fast or I'll be late for work. here goes..

In quick play, v8 would show the filenames at the end of a scheme, like artist/album. When clicking on a scheme (if I can remember right), all the tracks were loaded into playing now and it started playing on the song you selected.

With v9, these filenames are gone. So now you basically are just starting an album (artist/album).

How will v9 handle this? Will there be a filename appended onto the end?

I use artist/album/name. This is better in v9 cause you see the id3 tags instead of a filename. The only problem is when you click a song, just that song will be aded to playing now instead of all them as in v8.

What I would like to see if all the tracks appending in playing now and start with the selected track. It would have to use the same sort order used as if you were in the main player window. When using "Name", MJ is technically doing this because the last node would only have 1 track.

I know v9 is far from done yet but I was just wondering where these features are heading. Hairstyle is technically quick play but with a graphical side (which is really nice).

Hm, I had noticed that it wasn't displaying filenames anymore, but I hadn't realized why.

If the View Scheme doesn't include the Name field, then Quick Play won't either. I'm not sure what I think about that. I can see some areas where that would be useful, and others where it could be confusing and frustrating.

I guess the question is, why would you want to put the Name of a track on the tree? The only thing I can think of is so you can add songs to Playing Now without ever having to leave Playing Now. But that only works if you remember to never left click on that song. If you try a double click to add to Playing Now, it will work, but you'll jump out of Playing Now in the process.

So it seems incomplete to me.

Ideally, I'd like to see Quick Play ignore the Name portion of a View Scheme, and just populate the list like it used to, only ordering by Track Number (for albums), and not alphabetically.

Hairstyle works like Quick Play right now. To play a certain song in that format, you would need the name field.

But then again, the old way isn't really any better cause it used filenames instead of track names and if you had a file like track01.mp3 or something, you wouldn't know what it was. Mine are in artist - album - track - name format so it display a lot of information when only name is neccessary.

I really want to utilize this hairstyle format for my car. I think it would be a lot easier to pick a song. (mainly being able to read it and control it.)
