Opera is my default browser and Mozilla my alternate browser. I only use IE when forced to, which is the case with MC. Even if Opera is open, MC will still load IE when I click on Artist Info. Is there a way to change this behavior?

AFAIK, JRiver has decided to support the majority (95ish%) and be exclusively IE friendly.

Kind of unfortunate... but I can understand their choice. Maybe someday....

I would have thought it would have been better to simply use the Windows default browser. After all that is what the whole M$ anti trust case was about...

I to used opera for my browsing until about 3-4 months ago. Then i discovered MYIE http://www.myie2.com/html_en/home.htm wich is a front for IE adding much of the functionality of opera/mozilla eg: mouse gestures (my favorite), tabbed windows, etc.
My reason for "going back" was purely practical, there is just to many pages that is only compatible with IE ? (probably jriver's reason to)

Knowing absolutely nothing about how this is done, I thought perhaps, that MC could recognize the system's default browser.

I use MyIE2 at home and work and have never had any issues.

I used to use Opera, then MyIE, and now Firebird. With the right plug-ins, it does everything Opera and MyIE do, plus more, and it's a lot faster than Opera.

Combined with a privacy proxy and a caching web proxy, I now have an ad-free, pop-up/under-free, annoyance free browsing experience on all my machines on the local LAN without having to configure pop-up/ad-blockers seperately on each machine.

Bliss.

I use Mozilla and the Artist Info button opens the link in Mozilla. Does Opera have preferences/options for assigning Opera to a protocol? In Mozilla you can go into preferences and choose to associate it with HTTP, HTTPS, and other URL requests - this works for me. Any option in Opera which sets it as the default browser may help.

(1) Use MyIE2

(2) Set it as your default browser in myie2 options

(3) It will work perfectly with MC

Like others here I strongly recommend MYIE2. I've tried them all and in my opinion it's the best by miles.

It's freeware as well

It also worked in Opera! I found the option to make Opera the default program
to handle those protocols and now MC opens Opera instead of IE. Many thanks

I've never played with Firebird but it sounds worth looking it.

I wouldn't resent being forced to use Bill's browser if it really was the best choice, but it can't come close to other options available.

Thats good and you have the sense to see that there are other options. Unfortunately if MS IE has a 95% share of the market then that tells me there are a huge amount of people out there who don't!!

I want a browser that supports all the standards and allows me to use 32 bit PNGs with alpha transparency. Opera is good but FB goes that little bit further in terms of standards support...and its free...

I've played with Firebird for several hours today and extensions certainly add to it's functionality. If I could get mouse gestures to work (the extension installs but clicking options results in a "parsing error) I might even make it my primary browser. I did get either easy gestures or all in one to work (don't remember which one) but couldn't change the default trigger from left to right mouse button. I'll go back and try again after I take a deep breath.

Scott, did you find a way to change the gesture button from left to right? Also, when I look at mouse gestures in options, the actions are listed but not the gestures. Did you have to create a gesture for each action? Thanks

The All-In-One Gestures' "Options" has three tabs. The middle tab lets you customize the gestures and the right tab lets you choose the trigger button - which is defaulted to the right button.

After multiple uninstalls/installs of Firebird, All-in-One extension installed correctly and is working. Seems that if it's the first extension installed and all defaults are accepted on locations, all if fine. Now I can give Firebird a real workout.

Thank you! Thank you! I think it's ready to roll. Had some problems with the needlesearch extension, least of all, was the Dutch language default. After multiple crashes I deinstalled it, reinstalled FB and all is cool now. I'll stick with the Google toolbar.

To go full circle, after setting Firebird as my default browser, MC has no problem loading links in it. No tweaking required

Many thanks for everyone's help on this issue and for the encouragement to try FB!

I think I am going to like this Firebird browser ALOT!

Where do I find the rogram folder so I can send a shortcut o my desktop? The only way to open it now is by clicking a web link.
I can't seem to locate it in the Programs Folder ?

Also anyone have any input on using Thunderbird over Eudora?

You must not of used the (un)official installer. Just right click on your desktop and then New>Shortcut. Now browse to your FireBird dir and find MozillaFirebird.exe (in my case it's D:\Firebird\MozillaFirebird.exe). Give it a name and your done.

If you didn't use the installer (and merely unzipped the zip), then you'll want to apply Firebird.reg, which you'll see how to build here...

well what is confusing me is that there is NO Directory for Firebird, Mozilla, or anything even close.
Yet, it runs when I click on a web link. ?

If I could find the installed folder/directory I would have sent a shortcut from there to the desktop.

I downloaded and saved the zip file on my drive with my other saved software, openned it and double clicked 'MozillaFirebird.exe'

The Firebird browzer openned and asked to become my default browser I said YES. Well little did I realize that I had not installed the software, merely ran it from within the zip file.
Huh? It can run from within a zip file?

I have used other software that didn't need to be 'installed' first, but never expected that of a browser which I thought would need to hook into things.

So, after reading the past several posts it dawned on me . . . the light bulb finally came on and I unzipped the MozillaFirebird folder into my C:\Program Files\ and presto . . .

Sheesh.
