Recorder input sound problems

Ok its time for another update.  Still can not get the sound recorder to work.  Here is what I have found.  

I started an internet radio station for the sound source.  I went to tools/record sound and opened the recorder window.  I selected the options button and then selected recorder settings on the tree.  The recording device is set to Soundblaster PCI128 and recording source is set to mixer (I also tried line in with identicle results)

I went into the windows mixer controls and set all of the volume sliders (both playback and record) to mid point and made sure that all the mute boxes were unchecked.

I left the record control mixer window open on my monitor so I could see what was happening.  

Then I ran the recording volume test.  When I clicked on the "start test button"  Guess what happened???

ALL OF THE MUTE BOXES ON THE WINDOWS MIXER RECORDING CONTROLS WENT FROM UNCHECKED TO CHECKED THE INSTANT THAT I CLICKED THE "START TEST BUTTON"

I would guess this is why I can't get ther recorder to record anything.  

Does anyone have any idea why this would happen??

I would realy like to get the recording feature to work because I have many old vinyl albums that I want to record with MJ

Then only thing that I can think of that I have set in windows which is unusual is that I have autoinsert notification disabled.

Are you sure that "Mixer" was selected for the recording source in MJ when this happened? I can't replicate this on my system. When you have line-in selected, it will definitely fiddle with the mixer controls automatically, but it shouldn't touch them when the Mixer source is selected. I'm using version 9 but I didn't think there was any change from version 8 in this area. If you confirm that Mixer was selected, I'll try to round up an identical sound card and load it on a system with the same OS as yours to see if I can replicate the problem. Anyone else out there see this problem?

Hi John,

I went back and checked as per your request.  And Yes,  the input was MIXER, and yes, all of the mute check boxes went from unchecked to checked the instant I started the recording level test.  

I also tried the Line In setting and you are correct.  Only the line in remains unchecked when the recording test is started and the volume slider increases as the recording level program tries to adjust the sound.  When I exit the Recorder Program, the mute check boxes are reset to their unchecked state with either line in or mixer settings.

At this point I would ask that you hold off investigating this problem until you hear further from me..  It appears that my Windows operating system, who we all know has a mind of it's own, has tried to repair itself, or possibly some other program has fiddled with my registry, because I went into the registry and found hundreds of duplicate registry entries, in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.  and windows is taking a very long time to Shut Down, and Boot Up.   As soon as I get some time, I am going to rebuild a new system, on a clean formated hard drive.  I will save the old system seperate from the computer so that I can go back to it if necessary.  I wll try to do this this weekend and will post my results here as soon as I am done.

Thank you so very much for your help, I don't want to put you through any unnecessary testing until I have determined that the problem is or is not with my OS.
