Another smartlist puzzle
« on: November 12, 2003, 05:10:17 pm »

I have 3 smartlists as follows:

20 random tracks from the 60's
20 random tracks from the 70's
20 random tracks from the 80's

Is it possible to create 1 smartlist that will get 20 from the 60's, 20 from the 70s and 20 from the 80s?

You mean besides calling those three Smartlists together from within a PlayList?

Thanks Phydeaux.  Not the answer I was looking for but so often when you ask a tricky question you get no answer at all so are left wondering.  Thanks for clearing that up.

If you already have those 3 playlists try
New Smartlist->Add Rule->Playlist..
And select those 3 playlists

But that is 4 playlists...

Im not sure but I think you can create separate rules within a smartlist by bracketing off the sections. I don't have MC in front of me at the moment but in pseudo code something like (Decade: 60s Limit: 20 tracks) (Decade: 70s Limit: 20 tracks) (Decade: 80s Limit: 20 tracks).  Dunno if it'll work but may be worth a try???

4 Playlists is OK.  But can you explain: <And select those 3 playlists>

That's exactly the sort of solution I was expecting Adam but I just can't seem to make it work.  I'll give it another go tonight but if you manage to do it please let me know.

I have played with this and it doesn't work.  I was wondering about using the %of hits limiter but that ends up just limiting the number of tracks fetched so there are only 30 instead of 60....so in short I don't think it is possible as a smartlist.  What you could do is set up three playlists or smartlists to pick the tracks than a master smarlists to play the other three in a radom order...

Thanks Adam.  Never thought of using a playlist group.

Works fine here.

Only thing that doesn't work is Random on a playlist group as you can't remove sorting on a group (bug). Just don't use it and you'll be fine.
