Hardware requirement for MC v10
« on: December 26, 2003, 05:26:07 pm »

Hi MC,

I would like some inputs regarding hardware requirements for v10.

I notice that v10 is considerably slower than v9.  Not sure if there are performance related issues, and that you can tune your engine to be more efficient inv10.  When playing tracks, it takes 7-10 secs to load play.  When starting the program, it takes 8-12 secs to load.  For changing views, it takes 5-7 secs for the UPDATING ACTION WINDOW.

There is considerable processing in v10 that takes interaction very difficult for users.

I would like to know if MC requires us to have more memory, processing power etc? If there is such need, at least we can plan for them.  Otherwise, let us know that you will be addressing the performance issues.

One major benefit of MC (v8, v9) was that the engine is VERY FAST!

I notice that the ACTION WINDOW has many changes in v10.  However, I do not realize any visible benefit.  I notice that there are considerable delays to update the ACTION WINDOW. This may require some thinking on the functionality of ACTION WINDOW, and the trade off for performance.

I've seen a few people mention these slow-downs, however I have not experienced them at all... 10.0.23 is just as quick a 9.1 was for me... changing views takes less than half a second, songs start immediately... less than one second to add my entire library to the playing now and start playing, program takes about 1 and a half seconds to load. Don't know what's causing the differences in speed (I've also used 10.0.18 and 10.0.22, no difference).
This is on a 1.6 Athlon XP, 1048MB of RAM running Windows XP (Build 2600) SP1 and plenty of HDD space.

Hi Zarius,

Thanks for your comment.  I agree that the slow down does not happen to all systems.  My notebook with MC works fine in v10.  Only my desktop.  The suspect would be memory and CDRW drivers etc?
