Install Problems
« on: December 27, 2003, 06:36:58 am »

I tried searching the best I could on this topic to no avail, so here it goes.

I can install MJ 7 and 8, but I cannot install MC 9. The standard MS setup does it's thing, and then disappears and nothing appears after that. What is wrong?

I can't install MediaCenter10.015 either. I get the normal setup/install wizard, and then nothing happens.  ::)

why don't you uninstall everything.

make sure the \J River\ folder is removed

then try to install

once the installer runs, it may vaniash for some time i think once it took like 5 mins to pop up and finish the install (that only happened once). this is also a 3ghz computer.

Thanks for the reply. This is what prompted all this.

1. I checked the update in MC 9.1 and it said an upgrade was
available. I forget what number, but the install would start
    and disappear and nothing happened.
2. So uninstalled MC 9.1 - without deleting the JRiver directory -
and tried to install the latestes version. Same thing happened.
3. Tried to delete the JRiver directory and it said msscript.ocx
still in use. So I rebooted and then was able to delete the
    folder.
4. Remove of JRiver entries from the registry.
5. Tried to install MC 9 to no avail.

Thanks for the fast reply. I'm using Windows XP. This has happened to me before, but I can't for the life of me, remember what it was.

And what a great time to be without MC, just in time for the weekend.

Well I reformated my drive and was able to install MC9. I then installed dreamweaver and homsite, and now I cannot install MC10 beta. I'm running a local account as admin. There seems to be some problem with the installer.

It sort of sounds like some Windows component is getting goofed up. (the one that creates property pages / wizards)

Do Windows Update to make sure you have the latest everything.

Also, are you using the English XP with US locale?

Thanks.

Yes

Of course it is that time of the year, maybe a few more days.

I'm not sure whether the AMD chip supports MMX, which recent versions of MC require.

My personal opinion is this is software related. My problem is MC9 and MC10. Previous version were not a problem.

So I reformatted my PC and after patching, I was able to install MC9. I then install all my software, and then tried to install MC10. Again the problem appeared.

That might also be why some others with older computers and running windows 98 had problems (300mhz and one that had a 550mhz computer).

I've got an Athelon 2200+ processor in my HTPC and I haven't had any problems with any version of MC; I started with the 9.0 beta and am currently running 10.0.27.

How about the VIA chipset on the mobo?  I've got NVIDIA chips so that doesn't make for an apples-to-apples comparison.

Also as stated above, this happened to me in October and through these boards I was able to fix it. Others were having the same problems. However, I can't remember what the fix was, and I cannot get to that old thread.

Sure you can. In the "Set search parameters" screen, change the "Max age since last post" from 60 to 360 or 720 or whatever. Old posts never die here. The trick will be to come up with the correct search string.
