RE-Installation Woes... cont.
« on: November 26, 2002, 08:39:00 pm »

Hi all:

Here is a list of problems I encountered recently:

(1) Even though I purchased Ver.7, JRiver does not have me in its user's database.

(2) Ever since the software updated itself automatically to ver.8, I could not play my CD anymore: the tracks will be listed, but the highlighted bar will scroll down the list without playing the CD.

This forced me to use the v.8 only for burning .ape and .ogg files.

(3) Last week I was tempted and installed the v.9 ("Stable beta..." with disasterous results: the v.8 has been disabled, the installed v.9 still could not play my CD.

(4) I was adviced on this  Interact board to UNINSTALL all versions and reinstall the software.

Before I did so, I installed the latest updates from Roxio / Adaptec  site.

Well, here are the results:

(5)  During the "clean"installtion of v.8 the following error msg. showed: "Failed to install package: ....CDDBUI.dll "
which resulted in the following error msg. upon the 1st. run of v.8: "CDWriter 'could not create CDWriterXP burning control" which resulted in, yes, you guessed it, not recognizing my Plextor CD-RW.

Here is an odd fact: even though I UNINSTALLED all version, this newly REinstalled v.8 discovered that the software was registered.... Obviously the Uninstaller does leave unistalled traces...

I was not dismayed and went ahead to RE-UN-INstall v.8
and 'clean' installing v.9.

Here are the results:

(6) Error msg. "Failed to install package ....\plugins\enc_ape.dll"

This time, upon the 1st. run, there were no errors encountered, and my Plextor CD-RW was recognized. BUT

(7) It is still impossible to play music CDs.

In a 2nd try to play a CD, the program froze while accessing YADB and had to REBOOT the computer.

Here is my sys info:

A V7 license cannot be retrieved on-line.  It says this on the restore page.  You need to have a copy on a floppy.

A V7 license will work with V8 but not with V9.

Most of the problems you raise are covered in the FAQ under Jukebox/Purchase above.  See the section on switching between V8 and V9 for info on getting V8 going again.

Hi Jim:

I understand that you must be overwhelmed replying too many problems here, but I find your reply unsatisfactory and incomplete: ("....  Most of the problems you raise are covered in the FAQ under Jukebox/Purchase above.  See the section on switching between V8 and V9 for info on getting V8 going again.)

I have to repeat the problems not mentioned in the FAQ, but 1st. let me stress that I PAID for the software in April 2002, less then a year ago.

V.8 does not recognize my CD-RW, as I indicated.
V.9 does recognize and burn into my CD-RW, but DOES NOT play CDs.

8 Months after purchasing the software I have to pay for a new version (v.9) that still is somewhat crippled on my computer??? This does not seem right.

Now I'm going to consult your FAQ, as you adviced. If I find there the solution(s) to the problems I enumerated, you'll have my apologies (even though I'm a PAYING customer,) if I will not find a solution, you'll here hear from me too, but with some harsh wordings.

Thanks,

Reuven  ;D

Hi Jim:

I did not find in the FAQ a solution to ANY of the problems I listed in my previous messages.

I kindly request that you carefully go through the list and try to understand what I was saying, and try to help me solve them.

p.s. where can I find v.7 ?

The playback problem for a CD may be solved by switching the settings for the drive between analog and digital.

You say you installed version 9, but your system info says version 8.

There is a FAQ under Help above for CD ripping and burning.

Hi Jim:

Finished reading carefully the FAQ: It solved one out of two MAJOR problems - after unchecking the "Use Digital Playback" Cd's can be played again.

The 2nd. major problem is that the MJ v.8 can create CD WriterXP because it failed to install during CLEAN installation the CDDBUI.dll package.

Before carelessly installing v.9, my working v.8 DID recognize my CD-RW and WAS ABLE to burn CDs, now I can not burn anymore.

Where can I get the good old v.7?

You still did not address many of the problem I raised.

I have been communicating with you guys, back and forth for several days now, to no avail. Is there a highr authority I can communicate with? the president of the Company?

TIA

See if you can find and manually delete the cddb file.  Sounds like another program may have locked it.

Complaining about your problems makes them harder to solve.

Hi Jim:

And where would this CDDB file be?

What do you mean by " Complaining about your problems makes them harder to solve?"

It seems that you acquired a high degree of reading selectivity, but I'm a persistent guy!

You did not answer my questions posted in my last post!

Also, you disregarded my question about being forced to pay for v.9 8 months after I purchased version 7!!!

Version 8 was for sale over 12 months ago (it was in beta) when you bought V7 it never said you get version 8 for free but you were allowed to upgrade for free.

> Where can I get the good old v.7
I don't think it is on the server anymore for download and the plugins encoders are not compatable with the current versions.

Hi:

Aha!!! Found something that you "techies" may be comfortable with - MONEY and SALES!!!!

Well, you are wrong again on this topic too!

Here is a copy of the e-mail receipt sent to me buy "BuyButton":

BuyButton Receipt for Vendor JRiver,Inc.
If you read attentively, you'll verify that the purchase date was 04/20/2002!!!

According to you, you sold me v.7 while v.8 was already out!!!

I must remind you that your software is still DEFUNCT  as a result of  your very able tech support!!!

Shall I ask for my money back, or, may be, for an advice and willingness to fix the problems with your CRIPPLED v.8 software?!!!

TIA

reuven,
Lighten up and you'll find there is a lot of help here.

KingSparta isn't associated with the company.  You're biting the hand that might feed you.

I do represent the company.

Try a Windows search for the file you named.
