Exclude Schemes from Theatre View?
« on: February 08, 2004, 04:42:30 pm »

Do Theatre View questions go here, or in Third Party Plug-ins, Program and skins?

I now have the opportunity to explore Theatre View, having just received a DigiMatrix Home Media PC.  I was spending time creating a downsized Library for Playback only, when it occurred to me that it might be a better idea to just have the ability to exclude (or implicitely include) some items for display in Hairstyles. (I have having more than one library--I always end up getting in trouble).

For example, I don't need access to any of my tagging schemes, or organization playlists; indeed, they would only clutter up the menus and lists.

Is this a current or future option?

This has been requested but they do not appear to be doing any work on Theatre View right now.  In the meantime you could create a view scheme group and drag and drop all VS that you don't want to show up in Theatre View.  Then you'll only have one item on the Theatre View menu to ignore.

Lise,
The simplest way to do this might be to use a separate library.

Hi Jim,

Yeah, I thought of having a 'playback only' library. But I'm so bad with multiple libraries; I make changes on one, then the other, and I never know which is the most recent...

On the other hand, this machine will always be on (and hence the library will always be 'open') and editing the same library from another machine while the library is open somewhere else is never good.

You must noodle with this sort of thing all the time at home. What do you do? I mean, do you rate songs as they play while in the living room for example, while doing the major tagging work in another room? How do you cope with the multiple libraries keeping them synchronized?

Oh, and btw, I can finally appreciate all those other features in MC now that I have this machine: watching tv, taping, etc (we don't have tivo in Canada yet, so this is the alternative).  But I was wondering about one thing: scheduling tv shows to tape. I know Media scheduler does almost anything, but is it possible for me to customize Hairstyles to include scheduling functionality to tape my shows? Somehow I can't see Media Scheduler being legible on a tv screen. That might be the only reason I have to use other software, which I want to avoid as much as possible.
