Sorry.  I should have put this in there.  I've been getting the message on about 25-30% of burns to CRWs only.  CDR seems to be okay.  Trying to determine software or hardware error.  Hardware diagnostic checks out but there doesn't seem to be any consistancy with regard to applications or media type.  It happens on all three media brands I have tried (Memorex(crappolla), TDK 12x, Verbatim 4x), all RW.

FYI...
Replaced the drive.  Seems to work now so I'm going guess it was officially a hardware issue.  However can anyone tell me what a CDb error is?

It stands for Command Data Block which is the low level command sent to the CD drive to perform some action (such as write data). The error you got usually occurs when the drive has an error performing a command and when the subsequent command is received, it is out of sync and sends back this rather generic error message.
